Super Knocked Up Gets Geekie And Goes To Comic Con
Super Knocked Up Gets Geekie And Goes To Comic Con
By: Jay
OK stop me if you've heard this one: A girl wakes up in a strange bed next to a man she normally can not stand, and a few weeks later they find out she is pregnant. Sounds like the plot to a RomCom, right? Well, now add in super powers and make the girl the most feared super-villain and the guy the premiere superhero in the universe, and you have Super Knocked Up. A totally original and funny web series that is created, written and produced by Jeff Burns, stars Jourdan Gibson as the beautiful and deadly super-villain Darkstar and Mark Pezzula as the handsome and narcissistic superhero Captain Amazing.
Super Knocked Up can be seen across various platforms, including Youtube, JTS.tv (Just The Story), and Koldcast.tv. The show also has a social media presence through Facebook, Twitter and Youtube. With over two million views this award-winning web series - now in its second season - is quickly growing into one of the most popular series on the web today earning them praise from critics, comic book creators and fans. This year the show has won Best Geeky Web Show in the 2013 Comic Uno Second Annual Geeky Awards, Most Original Web Series at The 1st Annual Geekie Awards, in addition to being named an official selection of the 2013 HollywebFestival and the 2013 Marseille Webfest along with winning a Visual Effects award at the 2013 LA Web Fest.
Jeff Burns, reacted to the announcement of The 1st Annual Geekie Awards win with both excitement and pride: “I was so freakin' excited to find out we won Most Original Web Series at The Geekie Awards. Most people know how geeky I am, but now I have an award to prove it! It really is an awesome honor. The amazing Kristen Nedopak, who organized the awards, said the Web Series category was by far the most submitted to category of all the awards, so it's so cool to see we won among all the excellent competition. And it was also really cool to see our friends at web series Shelf Life and Continuum win Geekie Awards too.”
Super Knocked Up will be at the 2013 San Diego Comic Conwhere Burns and Gibson were invited to speak on a web series panel alongside such notable panelists as Jane Espenson (Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, Once Upon A Time, Husbands), Brad Bell (Husbands), Katrina Hill and Alex Langely, (Geeks And Gamers Anonymous), Sandeep Parikh (The Guild), and Tara Platt and Stephanie Thorpe (Shelf Life).
“We’re ridiculously excited to go!” says Burns. “San Diego Comic Con is the biggest
comic con/pop culture event in the country, and we’ve always wanted to go. And to get to go for the first time as panelists representing the web series world is a huge honor.” The panel is titled “Web Series Creators Assemble” and will take place on July 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Room 24ABC at San Diego Comic Con.
But this is far more than just a web series. Super Knocked Up is branching out into a franchise with spin-offs and merchandise that includes shirts, art, and even a comic book titled: Super Knocked Up#1 One Night Stand (Offered in printed, and digitally as PDF or CBR Files) all at reasonable prices. The website offers so much and the show brings great humor, and story along with incredible special effects that have only gotten better as the show continues. The actors are outstanding with terrific comedic timing and dynamic on-screen presence. The production of this show is above and beyond what I have seen on other fan-made movies and web series of this nature. I highly recommend you give it a try. I think you will be entertained.
Jeff Burns, who also produced a spinoff series, Super Mashed Up, featuring crossover adventures with characters from various other web series, such as Pairings, Justice Woman, Chop Socky Boom, Clutch, The Bloody Mary Show, Reality On Demand, Out With Dad, Pretty In Geek, Gay Nerds, and Pete Winning and The Pirates.
The 1st Annual Geekie Awards brings together the best of Internet geek culture, from web series to podcasts. The ceremony will take place on Sunday, August 18th from 5:30 PM to 11:00 PM PST (Pacific Standard Time) at the Avalon Hollywood. Tickets for the live show can be purchased on the official Geekie Awards web site, and will be discounted until June 30th. The show will also be streamed live online. A full list of the nominees and winners can also be found on the Geekie Awards web site.
Let us know in the comments what you think about Super Knocked Up. Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter to know whenever we post more previews, reviews, news and interviews on Comic Frontline.

Batman/Superman #1 Review
Batman/Superman #1 Review
By: Jay
DC’s big two, the World’s Finest, reunite in a new book for the first time in the New 52. The much hypedBatman/Superman book is finally here. DC solicits as:
“A new epic begins with the debut of this new, ongoing series! Don’t miss the first fateful meeting of Batman and Superman in The New 52!”
Does this issue live up to the tagline “Epic?” Find out what I think in my review.
I was a huge fan of the Loeb Superman/Batman, Batman/Superman book. He really got into their heads and their inner monologues were some of the best I have ever read for either character. The art was great with that series as well. You could always see the difference between their two worlds. The book was a consistent hit for me.
Oh how times have changed. This is not that book. My main issue with this book is the lack of consistency. Well, the lack of consistency with the writing. I have read Greg Pak’s writing before, and this is not his best by any means. There were a few moments when I enjoyed this book, like when Clark and Bruce are talking about their dads. The flashback of Clark where he says “But lets be honest… …I’ll always be Jonathan Kent’s boy,” put the biggest smile on my face. Then there was a touching scene where Bruce talks about his father reading to him and says “He read anything I asked him to, no matter how strange or scary. And he explained everything. Answered every question. Made it all make sense. Until it didn’t.” This scene made me connect to Bruce on a level I have never gone to before.
But that was the best of the story. The majority of it was boring and jumbled. It became the cliché story of heroes meeting and fighting because they both think the other is dangerous. The story transitions from both Batman and Superman in the past to Batman from the future and Superman from the past. This story truly disappointed me. Even the big “WOW” moment at the end of the book left me underwhelmed.
Jae Lee is one artist on this book (pages 1-18), but I’m not sure if he got the memo that this is an in continuity Batman/Superman book. Lee’s work isn’t bad, but it doesn’t fit this series and these characters. Now it this was a Batman/Superman By Gaslight, his style would work great. Lee’s style would fit a gothic, vampire, or steampunk genre book. A big key factor between Batman and Superman is their cities. Gotham is this dark and seedy city while Metropolis is a city that shines as a beacon of light and hope. Lee’s style blends the two together so the reader can’t tell through the art that they are in Gotham or Metropolis, because they both looked dark and gritty like Gotham .
The second artist is Ben Oliver (pages 19-25) who was slightly better. The colors were a bit more suited for this type of a book, but the art was still a bit too sketchy for me. Again the art is nice, but not right for this book. The change in artist is abrupt and disconnected me even further from the story.
The story was average, but the art really dragged the overall read down. It saddens me that I can’t recommend this book because the previous Superman/Batman, Batman/Superman series was so great and really made the relationship between these two heroes work and feel real. But I just can’t. In my opinion DC needs to up the creative team on this book and deliver the great stories that these two characters can support. I also think DC should get rid of the names on the book and go back to the characters iconic insignias. This way fans can refer to it with their favorite character in the top billing.
Well that’s what I think about this book. Let us know in the comments what you think about Batman/Superman. Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter to know whenever we post more previews, reviews, news and interviews on Comic Frontline.

Doctor Who Prisoners of Time issue 6
Doctor Who Prisoners of Time issue 6, thank God Pip and Jane Baker didn’t write this (I am only saying what is on every Whoevens mind). I am ready right now to decrial this to be the best issue in this event. We have Colin Baker’s Doctor, a talking penguin( is really a shape shifter), and the Autons.
The story has all of the right elements to make not just a good but also a great 6th Doctor story. The biggest problem this story has is the spacing and timing of all the events. The story can’t seem to figure out what speed it wants to travel at ex: if it wants to be fast, slow, or at a medium pace. There are parts where it moves at a great pace then parts where it seems to drag on a little.I would also like to point out that I find it very hard to believe that if Peri or Frobisher (the talking penguin/shape shifter) that if you had the chance to travel through all of time and space that they would chose to go to the Artic in 7214, I mean really? No alien planet no mystery to solve wow. However, this is also the same problem that the TV show had at the time when Colin Baker became The Doctor.
Speaking of problems it seems as thou the writers forgot that The 5th Doctor already figured out what was going on and more or less who was kidnaping his companions but for whatever reason they thought it would be nice to repeat that in this issue for some reason um…sure okay then? However, it should also be noted that this issue has many call backs to older Doctors and older episodes along with comic books which bumps it up to a 5/5 it does have its problems for sure but they are easily over looked. Also I am going to go on record and say that if nothing else you should pick up issue 7 next month I can’t say why at least not without giving away a hung part of the ending for issue 6.

Action Comics #22 Review
Action Comics #22 Review
By: Jay
DC announced the new creative team for Action Comics: Greg Pak and Aaron Kuder, and that their run will begin with November’s Action Comics #25. Until then we have the transitional team of Scott Lobdell and Tyler Kirkham for the main story in the 3-issue arc “Atomic Knights,” while Frank Hannah picks up artist Tom Derenickand continues “The World of Krypton” back-up story arc. What do I think of this creative team and this issue? Find out below!
Hector Hammond is in space checking out H.I.V.E.’s newest weapon. We are introduced to Straith: The First Knight of the Pax Galactica. Meanwhile Clark and Kat are covering an event for their blog where he detects Infinitium. Superman is summoned by Hammond to take on Straith. In the back-up: Lara tells Jor-El about the military coup as the two formulate a plan.
Action Comics is finally caught up to the present time. Lobdell is weaving his current Superman arc “Mindstorm” into this without making it a direct continuation. This story takes place some time after Superman #21 and Hammond and H.I.V.E. have built a weapon that can split nations in half. Something like that doesn’t go unnoticed so we meet the new character Straith. By his first appearance he reminds me of Terrax from the Marvel Universe. Where Terrax is a Herald of Galactus, Straith claims to be a knight of something called the Pax Galatica. Is he a noble knight? We don’t know yet.
Lobdell tries to make Superman more “edgy” and less of the “Big Blue Boy Scout.” After Straith hits him Superman says, “Once, Clark . Just once. You're not going to give the big ugly alien the benefit of the doubt. You're going to... ...Hit first... ...And often!” The whole scene seems a bit cliché, and has a bit of a “been there, done that” vibe to it. I’m not a fan of how everyone wants to make Superman edgy, relevant, or whatever phrase they want to coin at the moment, but I think Lobdell walked the fine line and did it right with this. He didn’t just have Superman go in punching in a blind rage. He humanizes him, has him refer to himself as Clark, and you just feel that he is tired of aliens hitting him and taking advantage of his talk first approach, so he is going to send this guy a message.
In the middle of the battle the rest of the Pax Galactica arrives, ending the fight and informing Superman and Straith that “A threat greater than e'er known wings its here.” The rest of the Pax Galactica, like Straith, reminds me of Heralds of Galactus, with some space gladiator mixed in. We do get a hint at what is to come when their leader Lourdes names this threat as “the Lexus.”
I’m not really feeling Tyler Kirkham’s art. Perhaps it’s the fact that we just came off of Tony S. Daniel’s arc? I don’t know. He does a good job on the book: Hector Hammond, Straith, the Pax Galactica all look great. But this is a Superman book, and I don’t like how he drew him. There were moments at the party where Clark looked kind of bubble-like. The art during the party isn’t consistent with details fading in and out from panel to panel. His Superman looks a bit Asian to me, which doesn’t fit the character. At times I felt like I was reading a Manga version of Superman.
While the art needs improvement the story has me interested enough to overlook it and enjoy the issue. I want to know more about the Pax Galactica, its members, and what the Lexus is.
DC gives us more bang for our buck with another great 8-page back-up story in this issue, written by Frank Hannah with Tom Derenick on the art this time. Hannah picks up “Part: 3 Darkest Depths” where he left off in the last issue. The action is still pumping as the Colonel’s men hunt down Jor-El, who is saved by Lara. I know I have said this before, but I really love this new spin on Lara. I’m a big fan of strong female characters and Hannah has really developed Lara. We can see a spark of Lois Lane in her. It is a nice parallel to the Clark and Lois relationship. Like father like son, Jor-El and Clark have the same taste in women, and I think this can be extended to Jonathan and Martha also. I think that is one reason why I enjoy Superman’s cast so much: the women aren’t helpless damsels in distress waiting for a man super or other to save them, they are proactive, and like Lara in this story, can save the man. We also find out a bit more about the beings that live in the ancient underwater city on Krypton. They’re called the Teklons and look like humanoid dinosaurs, that when frightened are dangerous. When we first saw the lost hidden city I thought it was like Atlantis on Krypton, but now they seem a bit more primal.
Derenick does a great job on the art in this issue. We really get a feel for Krypton and a younger Jor-El and Lara. Derenick captures the intensity of the emotions in his facial expressions. Krypton looks beautiful, it’s no longer the cold ice planet many know from the Reeve’s movies. Krypton is a flourishing planet with beautiful oceans, and an intriguing underwater civilization.
I have to admit the back-up story has me more interested than the main story. I’m hoping that this is building up to something, perhaps it’s a prequel to an upcoming arc in one of the Superman titles. I really want to see where the Teklons story goes. Will we see them around after Krypton is destroyed?
Overall, I liked this issue a lot more than I thought I would. I say pick it up. The back-up stories in DC are hit or miss with a lot of them not really interesting enough to read, but both the main and back-up story here is well done.
That is what I think about this book. Let us know what you think about the book, and about this Action Comics arc, in the comments. Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter to know whenever we post more previews, reviews, news and interviews on Comic Frontline.

X-O Manowar #15 Review
As some of you may remember the “Planet Death” saga had ended with issue 14 last month. I am glad to say that now things have gotten back to normal in X-O Manowar issue 15 kind of….
It should be noted now that most of this issue is told though flashbacks. Issue 15 starts off with Aric in the National Museum of History in Bucharest, Romania where he finds his father’s crown and then from that point tell the end is all flashbacks. We get to see how much of a leader Aric really is by telling his people that he is afraid too but that if there is no risk there is no reward.
I have to say I love the response of the people on earth when they see a space ship ½ the size of their city land on Earth instead of the “O wow mom look aliens!”.
That became a reoccurring theme with this issue (realism). Which in this case isn’t really a bad thing in fact I don’t think this issue could work with out it.
I also have to say I love the Eternal Warrior knows Aric and also calls him out on it saying that “there are people living here now. It’s not the 5th century anymore you can’t just drop out of the sky and claim a piece of land for your own the hole world is watching.” That sentence alone gives us a pretty good look in to the mindset that Aric has.
Whether you pick The Eternal Warrior ‘s side with how wrong Aric is or Aric’s side with him wanting his people to be remembered and have a place of their own on Earth this story was a capital S story a 5/5 all day there are more reason that I can’t tell you because of spoilers but trust me when I say that this is a must have and Valiant is a must watch for when it comes to the comic book seen.
I am CJ and until next time happy reading.

Batman '66 #1 (Printed) Review
Batman ‘66 #1 (Printed) Review
By: Jay
Holy awesome idea Batman! On July 3, 2013 DC released its newest digital comic, which is also the 1st comic in the DC2 line, Batman ’66. Following the usual DC Digital First format, DC has released three digital issues before collecting them in the 1st issue of the printed Batman ’66 comic. Has DC captured that nostalgic feeling of the campy Adam West series? Find out in this Bat-review. Cue the 60’s theme.
Has the Riddler truly perished in a plane crash? Is Catwoman really reformed? Can Batman and Robin thwart the Riddler’s most challenging riddle yet?
Sorry I couldn’t resist the old Adam West series style questioning way of setting things up.
Jeff Parker really did his homework. This book reads like an episode of the infamous Adam West, Burt Ward Batman TV series. Even the first issue mirrors the first episode of the show by featuring the Riddler as the villain and having him rob a museum.
Parker’s pacing also fits in perfectly with the ‘60’s show. I felt completely immersed in this book. I was transported back to being a kid watching the re-runs of Batman with me laying on the floor, my chin propped up by my hands as I smiled while Batman and Robin scaled a building with my dad. Parker even had someone not familiar with Gotham pop their head out a window and ask what they were doing.
But if you think that is all this is, you’re wrong. Parker adds some of his own touches that fit in perfectly with the feel of the show. The scene with Alfred and Aunt Harriet was spot on funny, but the scene with Alfred and the Bat-Pole put the biggest smile on my face. Parker even references the Batdance when a few people at the club ask Batman to show them how to do his dance.
The story is just one factor to the overall effect of this comic, with the art being the second. Jonathan Case brings the 60’s feel of the show to life in the pages of this comic. He gives us a very simple style that automatically throws you back to the early Silver Age style art that was prominent during the 60’s and was used in the title sequences of the show. But it doesn’t stop there. Case takes it a step further and gives the characters enough likeness that you can picture the show in the pages of this book.
My one drawback may be that I read the three digital issues that make up this printed edition digitally first. Why? Well Batman ’66 is the first release in the new DC² format, which the publisher describes as “the next level” of digital comics. DC² adds new layers to the digital comic's page by putting in morphing artwork. What does that mean? Conversations build as you read them. The pages pop as the special sound effects are layered on to each panel. This style really works with this series because the layering of the scenes and sound effects reminds you of the series itself. This element obviously is missing in the printed edition, but it doesn’t hurt the story or the feel of the printed version. I’m not sure if this style would work with other titles though.

Overall with the same Bat-style and same Bat-humor as the show I highly recommend this title to everyone who grew up watching the series either in its original run, or reruns like me. If you’re someone who only wants that dark gritty Batman, then I say skip this title. But if you are going to pick it up I recommend giving the digital edition a shot also to add to the overall effect of the story.
That is what I think about this book. Let us know what you think about Batman’66 #1 and the new DC² line in the comments. Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter to know whenever we post more previews, reviews, news and interviews on Comic Frontline.

Grimm #3 Review
Grimm #3 Review
By: Jay
Grimm is based on the hit NBC show about Homicide Detective Nick Burkhardt of the Portland Police Bureau. Detective Burkhardt learns he is descended from a line of guardians known as "Grimms," charged with keeping balance between humanity and the creatures known as "Wesen.” Nick is joined by his partner Detective Hank Griffin, and his friend Monroe, who himself is a Wesen. Like the show, the comic follows Nick and his friends as they battle against the Wesen, the Verrat, and the Royals uncovering new secrets and mysteries.
A little preface, I have been watching Grimm since the 1st episode aired. This show, even with all of the “Fairy Tale” shows out there right now is still unique. I loved the Free Comic Book Day Grimm #0 offering because it was like the show, and decided right then to add this title to my pull list.
Nick and Maya go to save Nick’s Mom from the Verrat and the Royals. Hank, Monroe and Laszlo barely escape the train wreck before they continue their quest to find the Coins of Zakynthos.
The show has been staying in Portland Oregon so far, but the comic is expanding the Grimm Universe and has taken them to Italy . Along with the new scenery we have gotten new characters like Maya, another Grimm, but the first one we have met that isn’t related to Nick.
The story is plotted by Jim Kouf and David Greenwalt while the script is written by Marc Gaffen and Kyle McVey. Even though the book isn’t in sync with the show, it still feels like it is. The writers do a great job of putting you in the Grimm Universe and making you feel like you’re continuing the TV Show, or perhaps a movie based on the series.
The thing I really like about the series so far is how they tell us what the Wesen are, and not just their Wesen name, but also what they are. This issue we see a Genio Innocuo, then it tells us what animal they represent in the real world, a tortoise. Monroe even goes further when he informs Hank that they are also really wise. So we really get a feel and a knowledge of the Wesen, even though the show tells us their Wesen name, they rarely explain what animal they represent and I really like that the book does that.
This issue showcases what I love about the show. We get details about this whole Grimm Universe along with great stories. You never know who to trust on the show, and this issue proves you don’t know who you can trust in the comic either.
The art is done by Jose’ Malaga who does a nice job connecting the art to the show. The style isn’t picture perfect like Alex Ross, but it does give enough likeness to the cast of the show that you can tell who is who.
Overall I am really enjoying this series, and this issue. If you love the show, you’ll enjoy this book. If you never seen the show, give this book a shot. It is a procedural book that mixes fairy tales, mythology, action, adventure, and comedy into a great book. I highly recommend picking up Grimm #3.
That is what I think about this book. Let us know what you think about Grimm #3 in the comments. Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter to know whenever we post more previews, reviews, news and interviews on Comic Frontline.

WB Announces Superman/Batman Movie For 2015
WB Announces Superman/Batman Movie
By: JayToday at the Sand Diego Comic Con Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures joint panel the two companies presented a rundown of their upcoming movies, with Godzilla and Seventh Son from Legendary and 300: Rise of an Empire, Gravity, and The LEGO Movie from Warner Bros. But the big news came from Warner Bros. with the announcement that on the heels of the worldwide success of Man of Steel, director Zack Snyder is bringing together the two greatest Super Heroes of all time, Batman and Superman, for the first time on the big screen.
Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill, who made surprise appearances at Comic-Con today, broke the news to audiences there.
"I know there's been a lot of speculation about what we're doing," Snyder said. "It is official that we're going to make another Superman movie." He teased that "there's one particular part of the film I might be able to help you out with."
Harry Lennox from "Man of Steel" joined the panel to read something. "We're not adapting this thing," Snyder said, "but it will help us tell you something."
"I want you to remember, Clark , in all the years to come, in all your most private moments, I want you to remember my hand at your throat," Lennox read, quoting Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns. "I want you to remember the one man who beat you."
Then, on the screen, a Superman shield within a Bat symbol behind it was shown. With nothing more to be said, the panel wrapped.
The current hit, Man of Steel, has taken in more than $630 million at the worldwide box office to date, and climbing. Along with its star, Henry Cavill, the upcoming film reunites Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane . The movie will also star a new Batman that has yet to be cast.
Snyder is co-writing the story with David S. Goyer, who will then pen the screenplay. Production is expected to begin in 2014, with an anticipated release date in the Summer of 2015. This time table answers the rumors that Warner Bros. wanted to fast track a Man of Steel sequel for 2014 and a Justice League movie for the Summer of 2015.
Warner Bros. released a press release today from Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, and Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution,Warner Bros. Pictures, announcing the movie.
Silverman stated, “Zack Snyder is an incredibly talented filmmaker, but beyond that, he’s a fan first and he utterly gets this genre. We could not think of anyone better suited to the task of bringing these iconic Super Heroes to the screen in his own way.” Kroll added, “We are thrilled to be back in business with Zack and his team on this next movie. The success of Man of Steel is a wonderful testament to the love and support that both fans and new audiences, worldwide, have for these characters. We are very excited to see what Zack has in store for all of us.”
Diane Nelson, President, DC Entertainment, noted, “Superman and Batman together on the big screen is a dream come true for DC fans everywhere. All of us at DC Entertainment could not be more excited for Zack’s continuing vision for the DC Universe.”
Zack Snyder later said, “I’m so excited to begin working again with Henry Cavill in the world we created, and I can’t wait to expand the DC Universe in this next chapter. Let’s face it, it’s beyond mythological to have Superman and our new Batman facing off, since they are the greatest Super Heroes in the world.”
The new film brings back Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder as producers. This time, Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas are serving as executive producers, along with Benjamin Melniker and Michael E. Uslan.
Thomas offered, “Whilst our Dark Knight trilogy is complete, we have every confidence that Zack’s fresh interpretation will take the character in a new and exciting direction. His vision for Superman opened the door to a whole new universe and we can’t wait to see what Zack does with these characters.”
The film is based on Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster, and Batman characters created by Bob Kane, published by DC Entertainment.
Let us know what you think about Warner Bros. announcement of the Superman/Batman movie and what this could mean for the future of the DC Cinematic Universe in the comments. Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter to know whenever we post more previews, reviews, news and interviews on Comic Frontline.

Super Knocked Up: One Night Stand #1 Comic Review
Super Knocked Up: One Night Stand #1 Review
By: Jay
The original web series SuperKnocked Up has given birth to its very own comic book SuperKnocked Up: One Night Stand #1! When the beautiful and deadly super-villain Darkstar has a one night stand with the handsome and narcissistic superhero Captain Amazing it makes for an interesting web series. But does it translate into an interesting comic book? Find out what I think.
Darkstar goes to break out Dr. Destruction from jail. Captain Amazing and the Guardians of Justice arrive to stop them. Darkstar and Captain Amazing discover there is more between them than the law.
Jeff Burns, writer of the web series, brings his story to the comic book world and expands upon it. This isn’t just a retelling of the 1stepisode, or the 1st season of Super Knocked Up. This is a full story of how Darkstar and Captain Amazing met. We get to see what happened before they woke up after their fateful one night stand.
I really liked the expansion of the first episode. You get a lot of details that because of production costs and timing we couldn’t get in the 1st webisode of SuperKnocked Up. We get to see some of Captain Amazing away from Darkstar and just how he behaves with women. Burns does a great job giving us deeper looks into the personalities of these characters and makes you care for them all the more.
This issue also introduces you to some characters like the Guardians of Justice, Dr. Destruction, the girl who would become Cheery Villain and more. We see some more villains and just more of this interesting world that Burns has crafted.
The art is done by Donny Dandakusuma, who brings a nice nostalgia feel to his art. I feel like I am back in the 80’s early 90’s before comics became super detailed and approaching the more realistic side of the spectrum. Dandakusuma does a great job showcasing characters that we may not get to know one-on-one yet. In the big battle splash page he does a great job showing us what these character’s powers are without needing it to be spelled out by the writer.
Overall, this is a fun book. If you’re a fan of the web series you’re going to love this issue, because it gives you more details. I do want to say though that you do not need to read this to appreciate the web series, but by reading this you get a greater feel and appreciation of the series. I recommend picking it up. Go to the SuperKnocked Up website and check out the comic. You can pick this up digitally (PDF or CBR file), or in printed format. Both are reasonably priced at $1.99 for either digital download and $4.50 for the printed version and you get a 28-page story.
That is what I think about this book. Let us know what you think about Super Knocked Up: One Night Stand #1 in the comments. Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter to know whenever we post more previews, reviews, news and interviews on Comic Frontline.

Thor: The Dark World #1 & #2 Prequels Review
Thor: The Dark World Prelude #1 & #2 Review
Marvel’s next sequel, Thor: The Dark World isn’t set to hit theaters until November 8th 2013 , but Marvel wants to cash in on the Summer Movie meal ticket by releasing its 2-issue Prelude comic. Are these comics worth it? Do they get you excited for Thor: The Dark World? I read both and I’ll let you know my opinion. If you haven’t seen any Marvel Cinematic Universe movies since Thor, and don’t want any Spoilers for Avengers, or Thor: The Dark World do not proceed past the SPOILER WARNING image.
The bifrost is destroyed and Asgard is no longer connected to the Nine Realms. Loki is alive and is on Midgard with the one thing that can reunite Asgard and the Nine Realms again.
Christopher Yost and Graig Kyle are the writers for both of these tie-in issues and they do a good job catching the reader up on what has happened since the end of Thor. For the majority of the two issues we get a Thor-centric view on the events of the Avengers.
There are three parts to the story. The first half of the first issue deals with the aftermath of the end of Thor. We see what Thor destroying the bifrost bridge caused not just Asgard but the rest of the Nine Realms and the universe itself. Jane’s story is also continued as she tries to use science to reconnect with Thor while holding onto the hope that he will return to her. The second half of the first issue and as well as the majority of the second issue gives us some Thor-centric deleted scenes from the Avengers, with the rest of issue two being a set up for the Thorsequel.
Yost and Kyle added some nice scenes in there, especially the scene between Thor and Iron Man with Tony comparing them to Game of Thrones and Mad Men respectively. We also got some nice progression of Jane’s character. We get to see some of what she has been thinking and how she felt during the Avengers, which I have a feeling we will see in the sequel itself. We also might have been given a hint at characters that could pop up in the Guardians of The Galaxy.
Each issue has its own artist with Scot Eaton doing the pencils on the first issue and Ron Lim doing them for the second issue. I have to give credit to the inker Andrew Hennessy who inked the first issue alone and was joined by Rick Magyar for the second issue. They really made the two artists individual issues flow together nicely. With those props given to the inkers, the pencilers also did a really good job. There are some really beautiful scenes that look like they could have popped out of the Thor Movie. While they got some of the majesty of the movie in these issues, they lacked the capturing of the actors. There wasn’t enough details to make me really connect these characters to the movie, which a prequel, or movie adaptation should do.
A prequel should do three things:
1.) Prepare you for the movie.
2.) Give you insight into what the feel of the movie will be.
3.) Most importantly get you hyped to see the movie NOW.
Overall I liked these issues I thought they were solid, but they didn’t do what they should have done. They were entertaining but they only gave us a little insight into what Thor: The Dark World will be about, and left me feeling more like I read deleted scenes from the Avengers than a Thor prequel. With a combined price tag of $5.98 ($2.99 each) Marvel is really trying to drain fans by giving us a two-issue Avengers padded Thor prequel that could have been trimmed down into one issue. If they would have done that and actually prepared us for Thor: The Dark World I would recommend this, but given that it is a one-issue story padded and stretched out to fit two issues just to drain fan’s pockets I have to recommend not picking up these books.
That is what I think about this book. Let us know what you think about Thor: The Dark World Prequel #1 & #2 in the comments. Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter to know whenever we post more previews, reviews, news and interviews on Comic Frontline.

All New X-Men #14 review
OH MY GOD PROFESSOR X IS BACK!!!!!!! Well kind of…anyways I guess Jean Grey read more of the X-Men’s minds than we thought. Issue 14 starts with Jean projecting an image of the Phoenix in to every ones minds (by mistake only meaning to hit the “bad guys”), which leads Logan to attack her.
After that we see the Phoenix wasn’t really there. Professor X then shows up but it turns out to be a projection by Lady Mastermind at the end of the issue, Jean pretty much saves the day. Okay I was cool with her leading the team and I was even cool with her gaining more control over her powers (even though she had trouble controlling them in the comics but what ever). However, Jean saving the day by her self I am not okay with. Aside from one or two take downs by the rest of the X-Men Jean takes everyone else down by her self. As an X-Men fan this feels like a slap across the face from Marvel its called X-Men for a reason, as in more than one person, yet all I saw in this issue was Jean kicking @$$ and everyone else standing around saying “Jean sure is swell isn’t she.”
On the other hand, I am enjoying the relationship between Scott and his brother. However not even that will save issue 14. I have to give this a 2/5. The story has a lot and I mean A LOT of plot holes from the cover to the end. I can’t help but feel like someone showed me this awesome magic trick and then showed me how it was done and now it just seems dumb. I really do wish I could give this a higher rating but if I did that I would be lying to you the readers and myself, with that being said 2/5 is the final rating on Issue 14.
I am CJ and until next time happy reading

Image Preview: Rat Queens
![]() |
Cover #1 |
In this new series by Kurtis J. Wiebe (PETER PANZERFAUST) and Roc Upchurch, starting in September, the Rat Queens are taking on the quest of a lifetime... or at least the quest that’s going to get them out of the latest jam they’ve found themselves in: clearing out some pesky goblins from a cave. But these aren’t just any goblins, and Hindman Cave isn’t just any cave.
A RAT QUEENS webcomic by Wiebe, Dejmal, and Upchurch will run each week on the Image Comics tumblr until the release of the first issue on September 25. Wiebe has also spoken to the L.A. Times and USA Today about the upcoming series.
RAT QUEENS #1 — including a special variant edition with a cover by SAGA artist FionaStaples — can be pre-ordered now from the July issue of Previews (Diamond Code JUL130404).
