During the Marvel's Next Big Thing Panel as Comic-Con International: San Diego the publisher announced a partnership with ComiXology to create original Digital-First books for the Amazon-owned digital comic service. Marvel kicks off their Digital-First line today with the first issue of IMMORTAL IRON FISTS by writer Kaare Andrews and artist Afu Chan.
"A unique entry-point that’s perfect for new fans and longtime readers alike, Immortal Iron Fists tells the tale of Pei, a young female monk from K'un-Lun and the youngest person to ever bear the mark of the Iron Fist. While Pei tackles the trials of high school, Danny Rand, the Immortal Iron Fist, faces his greatest challenge yet: training the inexperienced Pei. All the while, a growing threat appears that will take more than one pair of Iron Fists to defeat!"
— Official Description

If this sounds familiar it is because the title was originally announced last year as a part of the now-concluded Marvel NOW! initative. Immortal Iron Fists is planned as a six-issue twice-monthly title. It will be available free to ComiXology Unlimited subscribers, and cost $2.99 for non-subscribers.
“Immortal Iron Fists serves as a perfect starting point for those new readers who are just discovering the world of Marvel Comics. We’re loving working with Marvel on this line of exclusive content as part of our comiXology Originals program. Giving new and current fans the option to buy or read for free as part of our comiXology Unlimited subscription service is a huge win. We can’t wait to hear from the fans.”
—  Chip Mosher, ComiXology’s Head of Content
& Senior Director of Communication

Further Marvel titles exclusive to ComiXology are planned to be announced at a later date. There are no details if/when Marvel will release a printed edition of Immortal Iron Fists has been given, but several of the ComiXology exclusive titles have seen print.

While the original cover for the series previously solicited as the adjectiveless Iron Fists and featured a young-looking girl with the power of the Iron Fist, while the new solicitation states she is in high school.

SDCC: GEOFF JOHNS PROCLAIMS “THE END IS HERE”

#DOOMSDAYCLOCK

Geoff Johns joined DC PublisherDan DiDio at SDCC today and revealed new details about his highly anticipated DOOMSDAY CLOCK series. During the hour-long Spotlight conversation, Johns debuted six interior panels, beautifully illustrated by Gary Frank with colors by Brad Anderson, including confirmation of Dr. Manhattan’s involvement in DOOMSDAY CLOCK.

DOOMSDAY CLOCK is a story for our time that brings the greatest heroes and villains from the DC Universe together with the mysterious forces from the Watchmen Universe. As Johns discussed the sophistication of the story and its real-world influence, his words paired beautifully with the panels, which are highly detailed and evoke layers of emotion.

During the panel, Johns announced that the series would be Superman centric and it will start one year in the future from current DC continuity. The timelines will link up at the conclusion of the series where readers will see characters that have been affected by the events in DOOMSDAY CLOCK.

The first issue will hit shelves on Wednesday, November 22, just prior to the Thanksgiving 2017 holiday, a time of year that has a special meaning in Johns’ life. Each year, he would return home from school with the latest comic books to read and discuss with his friends. The monthly series will run 12 issues with planned breaks in March and August.

Checkout out all the revealed images above. The countdown to #DoomsdayClock begins now!

SDCC 2017: Marvel's Inhumans Panel Reveals New Footage & An Original Character!

$
0
0

San Diego Comic-Con 2017 has rolled out the red carpet for the Inhuman Royal Family as the cast of Marvel's Inhumans take on SDCC for the first time! The panel included head of Marvel TelevisionJeph Loeb, Director Roel Reiné, Executive Producer Scott Buck, Sonya Balmores (Auran), Isabelle Cornish (Crystal), Eme Ikwuakor (Gorgon), Ken Leung (Karnak), Mike Moh (Triton), Anson Mount (Black Bolt), Iwan Rheon (Maximus the Mad), Serinda Swan (Queen Medusa) and introducing Ellen Woglom (Louise) an original character who will be a human. Each of them were gifted with a mini Lockjaw plush, the plushes paled in comparison to the massive one see at the Marvel Booth, which Agent M encouraged attendees to hug during Marvel LIVE!

Marvel's Inhumans first two episodes will debut in IMAX theaters as a movie on September 1, 2017, and both episodes will make their television debut together on September 29, 2017. This was the first time that they announced that the television debut will include both episode, and as reported before they will air with additional footage not on the IMAX version.
“This is not a superhero show, it’s a show about humans (or Inhumans) with powers. Those expecting just a typical superhero show are going to be in for something different. To enjoy the show the most it’ll be best to view it not as a superhero show but a show about humans who are dealing with these powers, so expect mistakes."
— Scott Buck

The panel also introduced an all new original character, Louise played by Ellen Woglom who will be playing a human from Earth with some important knowledge! They also mentioned that Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Marvel's Inhumans each will impact the others story. A crossover episode between the two shows will eventually happen, so all those years of planting the seeds for the Inhumans in S.H.I.E.L.D. will pay off.

Perhaps the biggest piece from the panel was the new footage. The new footage seems to add more depth to the original trailer and addresses some of the fails of that first trailer. It opens with Triton trying to save a young Inhuman while trying to escape from the military. Other new footage included Gorgon and Karnak in action sequences that displayed their powers and the severity of their scenes, both of which were not to be found in the original trailer. A welcome addition from the comics shows Medusa communicating with Black Bolt using sign language that only they knows and understand. Anson and Serinda worked together to develop the original sign language. Speaking of the Queen, the biggest improvement would have to be the inclusion of Medusa and her moving hair. A big complaint from fans after the release of the first trailer was that Medusa's signature living locks was absent, but this new trailer has it on display. Loeb said there are over 600 special effects in the first 2 episodes alone!

Don't miss Marvel's Inhumans in IMAX theaters on September 1, 2017, and its TV debut with bonus footage on ABC on September 29, 2017.

SDCC 2017: Young Justice: Outsiders Panel!

$

0

After four years absence Young Justice is back with Young Justice: Outsiders, the third season of the hit show, and they let their presence be known at San Diego Comic-Con 2017!  Our very own KatComic Uno is there and broke a lot of the news including images via her Twitter. The panel featured show runners Greg Weisman and Brandon Vietti along with character designer Phil Bourassa. The panel started off with a sizzle reel of the first two seasons.

Vietti started with a  joke that addressed the return of the show saying how the time jump between seasons one and two was so successful that they thought they'd try it in real life. He then noted that being on Cartoon Network had some strict standards and practices that limited what they can do and with season three moving to the digital service gives them more wiggle room for sophistication.

Weisman added that they had recorded the first ten episodes with scripts for the first twelve completed while working on another ten. The third season will contain 26 episodes in total. Weisman also noted that Young Justice: Invasion did not end on a cliffhanger before they moved on to some old art that showed early logo and character designs. Weisman and Vietti both credit the fans with the return of the show and reiterated that Teen Titans GO was not the reason Young Justice ended. They are fans of the show and that both shows can co-exist.

Once the walk down memory lane was over the panel upped the ante with some new art that Weisman stated would have cosplayers having to update their looks. The first set of designs showed familiar characters Robin (Tim Drake?) with a hood that is reminiscent of Damien Wayne's cape. Robin is followed by Arsenal and Blue Beetle both sporting the same costumes they wore in season two. Next up is Kid Flash (Bart Allen) and Static, both having gotten updated looks. Bart's costume appears to be a slightly tweaked version of the costume Wally wore in the animated Justice League Vs Teen Titans movie, while Static is wearing a blue vest with jeans and a black top with his familiar logo on it. The final two are Wonder Girl (Cassie Sandsmark) and Beast Boy, with Wonder Girl appears to be in her season two costume while Beast Boy seems to have some tweaks to his costume.

The next image featured a trio of female heroes new to the team including Arrowette (Cissie King-Jones) a fan-favorite member of the original Young Justice comic styling a brand new design. Next up is Traci 13 making her animated debut in a new costume.  The final character is one that we seen only in civilian clothes in season two, Spoiler (Stephanie Brown), who is in a very tradition looking costume, that is true to her comic counterpart.

The final new image showed four of the original members of the team in what appears to be their new costumes. The new looks give them the feel of a covert espionage team. The team consists of from left to right Artemis, Nightwing, Aqualad, and Superboy. The photos shows how each of them have aged but the most apparent is Kaldur, who now has a beard.

Season 3 of Young Justice: Outsiders will premiere on the still unnamed DC Digital Service in 2018 and will have 26 episodes in total.

SDCC 2017: DC Reveals More Dark Metal & More Dark Matter!

DC REVEALS MORE METAL AND MORE DARK MATTER
AT THE HEART OF THE DCU

The team behind 2017’s hottest event, DARK NIGHTS: METAL, Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo, were joined by DARK MATTER contributors Jim Lee, Phillip Tan, James Tynion
IV and Robert Venditti in this revealing hour of comics!
“What excites me most about our blockbuster event METAL is that it takes full advantage of the talent and vision of the creative teams working at DC right now. DARK DAYS leads to DARK NIGHTS, and DARK NIGHTS leads to DARK MATTER. Everyone on stage here today, as well as the teams back at home working on their books, is bringing the power and energy expected from superhero storytelling to the pages of these new titles.”
— Dan DiDio, DC Publisher

Characters and stories from each of the DARK MATTER books will be plotted throughout METAL, which Snyder described as:
“if Frazetta and Jack Kirby had a baby to a heavy metal soundtrack, METAL is that event. Battle armor, dinosaurs, robots. It’s really meant to be a celebration of comics and is a thank you to you the fans, honestly. We’re going all out.”
During the panel DiDio revealed that, in addition to the titles announced earlier this year at C2E2, DC would be publishing additional titles under the upcoming DARK MATTER banner. New artwork for BRIMSTONE and THE TERRIFICS was shown, in addition to key artwork for THE SILENCER, SIDEWAYS, IMMORTAL MEN, DAMAGE, and NEW CHALLENGERS.

While artwork for THE TERRIFICS was on screen, DiDio pulled a surprise guest, writer Jeff Lemire, on stage to join the panelists. Lemire will make his return to DC with the title in 2018.

SDCC 2017: Meet DC's FANTASTIC New Team THE TERRIFICS!

$

Jeff Lemire is returning to DC Comics after being a Marvel exclusive and it appears he brought something they aren't using. Lemire will be writing a new superhero "family" titled THE TERRIFICS!
The title will emerge post-Dark Nights: Metal as a part of the previously announced Dark Matter line. The team will be lead by Mr. Terrific and include, former OutsiderMetamorpho, The Legion's Phantom Girl, and Plastic Man.

The line up really reflects all the attributes both personality and power wise that we associate with the Fantastic Four. Mr. Terrific personifies the brains of Mr. Fantastic while Plastic Man his powers of elasticity. Phantom Girl fills the role of the Invisible Woman as the female member who can turn invisible. Metamorpho perfectly represents the tough guy with a physical disfiguration of The Thing, while Plastic Man embodies the fun light-hearted side of Johnny Storm, which could put him and Metamorpho in a similar dynamic and The Thing and The Human Torch.

Lemire spoke briefly about The Terrifics and how it’s a book that’s aiming to capture the same feel of Fantastic Four from the Lee/Kirby era. “It’s all about family,” Lemire says, “And Ivan Reis will be working with me on art.” Lemire also announced another project he is working on Hawkman: Found with Bryan Hitch and Kevin Nowlan.

With Disney/Pixar doing The Incredibles 2, FOX doing a Doctor Doom movie, and now DC's The Terrifics, it seems like everyone but Marvel is doing something with the Fantastic Four.

SEGA® and IDW Publishing Dash Forward with Partnership Deal

Back in January Archie Comics abruptly stopped publishing all of their Sonic The Hedgehog titles leaving fans of the longest running video game comic spinning. Earlier this week they released a statement stating more news will come, and it has but not from Archie. Today SEGA® revealed that Sonic the Hedgehog™ and his friends have joined forces with IDW Publishing, the leading publisher of licensed comic books, to begin a thrilling new chapter in the Blue Blur’s adventures in 2018.

Creative teams are currently being formed, and a publishing plan is now underway with more details to come at a later date. Writers and artists will be bringing their considerable talents to the comic book world of Sonic.
“We’ve been speaking with beloved Sonic fan-favorite creators and new creators alike, and are excited to be able to spread specifics about our plans for the comic in the near future”
 — Chris Ryall, IDW’s Chief Creative Officer
“We are ecstatic about this partnership with IDW. We know they’ll serve as a good home for the new adventures of Sonic, his friends, and foes.”
 — Ivo Gerscovich, Chief Brand Officer for Sonic the Hedgehog

It is unknown at this time if IDW plans on continuing the numbering of the longest running comic based on a video game or start fresh with a #1. In the past IDW has done both when acquiring properties from other publishers.

SDCC 2017: DC Universe Original Movie 2018 Line Up Features The Death & Return Of Superman 2-Part Movie!

$
0
0

DC Entertainment has released their 2018 DC Universe Original Movies line during the San Diego Comic-ConBatman And Harley Quinn world premiere. This has become their standard, DC premieres their latest animated movie and announces the new line up at SDCC. This year the slate includes, BATMAN: GOTHAM BY GASLIGHT, SUICIDE SQUAD: HELL TO PAY DEATH OF SUPERMAN, and will conclude early 2017 with REIGN OF THE SUPERMEN.

It’s one of the most popular and powerful Superman stories ever told, but it’s such an epic tale that it can’t be faithfully told over a single film. So when Warner Bros. Animation, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment adapt the famous story of the death and return of the Man of Steel just in time for its 25th Anniversary, it’ll be as two separate feature-length animated movies.

Revealed at San Diego Comic-Con tonight at the packed Batman and Harley Quinn world premiere, theDEATH OF SUPERMANadaptation was just one of the upcoming animated films in the popular DC Universe Original Movies line that was announced for 2018.

First out of the gate will actually be Batman: Gotham by Gaslight, an adaptation of the popular 1989 tale that introduced us to a Victorian Era Dark Knight who was in pursuit of Jack the Ripper. Written by Brian Augustyn and drawn by Mike Mignola of Hellboy fame, BATMAN: GOTHAM BY GASLIGHT is largely considered to be the very first “Elseworlds” tale. At 48 pages, the original comic is relatively slim, meaning the movie version will offer an expanded version of the story, something that’s sure to delight fans of its cobblestone-paved world.

That will be followed in the spring by Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay, the first Suicide Squad movie set within the DC Universe Original Movies’ shared continuity. (Batman: Assault on Arkham, the 2014 movie that also featured the Suicide Squad was set within the Arkham video game continuity.) Hell to Pay will feature an original story and what’s promised to be an amazing, though sadly not-yet-revealed, voice cast.

Rounding out the 2018 releases will be Death of Superman, the first part of the two-parter. Adapting the legendary story of Superman’s fatal battle with Doomsday, this will actually be the second DC Universe Original Movie to adapt the material. The first, 2007’s Superman: Doomsday, was the very first DC Universe Original Movie and greatly condensed and altered the original comic book event to fit within its 75-minute running time. The upcoming adaptation will be more faithful to the source material, much less condensed and will include many of the fan-favorite moments from the story that were left out of Superman: Doomsday.

Finally, in early 2019, look for Reign of the Supermen, the second part of the two-part adaptation. While we’ll have to wait for an official synopsis to learn all of the details, that name should be a familiar one to Superman fans and suggests we’ll be seeing the rise of the Superman alternates that took his place during the year after his death. (For those unfamiliar with the story, they were Steel, Cyborg Superman, Superboy and the Last Son of Krypton.) This part of the Death and Return of Superman was greatly simplified in Superman: Doomsday, which instead featured a single alternate Superman rather than the four we saw in the comics.

SDCC 2017: DuckTales Reboots GETS DANGEROUS!

$

0

Last weekend at the D23 Expo in Anaheim CA DuckTales producers refused to commit one way or the other if Darkwing Duck would appear but today at San Diego Comic-ConDisney XD's Panel confirmed that DuckTales is about to get DANGEROUS!
We do not know when exactly in the first season the Terror That Flaps In The Night and his daughter Gosalyn will appear, but one thing is certain, fans are excited for it. This would be the first time the two universes ever officially crossover despite the two sharing a few characters in Launchpad McQuack, and Roboduck.
“Because Launchpad appeared in DuckTales and we used Roboduck as the Superman character, the hero who gets all the glory as opposed to Darkwing, fans try to connect the two realities. They are two different universes in my book. We work in the alternate Duckiverse. Credit my comic book sensibilities. DW takes place in ‘A’ Ducktales universe but not the one you saw on TV. It’s an alternate universe with a different Launchpad like a DC ‘Elseworlds’ story. And thank you for watching."
Tad Stones, Creator

DuckTales one-hour movie premieres on Disney XD at midnight ET/PT on August 12th and run for 24 hours. The series will begin its regular run in September. The series stars David Tennant as Scrooge McDuck, Danny Pudi as Huey,Ben Schwartz as Dewey, Bobby Moynihan as Louie, Kate Micucci as Webby Vanderquack, Beck Bennett as Launchpad McQuack, Toks Olagundoye as Mrs. Beakley and Tony Anselmo as Donald Duck. Also expect guest stars as Lin-Manuel Miranda as Gizmoduck aka Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera, Allison Janney as Goldie O’Gilt, Margo Martindale as as Ma Beagle, Paul F. Tompkins as Gladstone Gander, Kimiko Glenn as well-traveled teen Lena, Jim Rash as mad scientist Gyro Gearloose, Josh Brener as tech billionaire Mark Beaks, Keith Ferguson as Scrooge’s archenemy Flintheart Glomgold, Eric Bauza as the Beagle Boys and Corey Burton as Ludwig Von Drake.

SDCC 2017: Waid & Samnee Take On Captain America!

During the Secret Empire Panel at Comic-Con International: San Diego today Marvel announced that former Eisner Award-winning Daredevil team of writer Mark Waid and artist Chris Samnee will be taking over Captain America post-Secret Empire with the Legacy renumbering CAPTAIN AMERICA #695!

Alanna Smith,  Marvel Comics Assistant Editor said this is something of a back to basics approach to the character, following the Supreme Leader of Hydra Captain America of Secret Empire, while Mark Waid promises, "it will be the Steve Rogers that we know and love." The series will continue in the post-Secret Empire world with Captain America going on a road trip
“Steve is kind of tired of being the couch-surfer of the Marvel Universe, he’s never really had a place to call his own other than Avengers Mansion. This is him getting back in touch with Captain America, learning how people perceive Captain America in light of Secret Empire. This is Steve listening to people to find out how they feel about him and what they want from him from now on.”
— Mark Waid

Waid and Samnee are no strangers to "back to basic" approaches for  Marvel characters, the duo first teamed on a critically-acclaimed “back to basics” run on Daredevil, The run earned them both an Eisner Award.

While the renumbering places this as a  Marvel Legacy title, there was no Captain America book listed among the 52 Marvel Legacy titles announced from  Marvel, but the publisher did promise that 53 titles will be launched out of Marvel Legacy #1.  Marvel never announced the 53rd title but with Captain America not being among those 52 titles many us assumed that it would be the 53rd title.
"This series is going to feel like coming back home for a lot of readers."
— Alanna Smith

Kat Comic Uno made it to Comic-Con International: San Diego this year! She is working the floor, hitting panels and doing interviews and she got to sit down and interview the cast and crew of the hit MTV show TEEN WOLF!

During the Teen Wolf Panel at San Diego Comic Con 2016 show runner Jeff Davis announced that the 6th Season will be the last for the MTV fan-favorite supernatural teen drama Teen Wolf. The last 10 episodes begin airing Sunday July 30, 2017 and the finale will be the show's 100th Episode. This year the cast has some old faces joining them as they assemble to do their finale SDCC panel and say goodbye to the fans.

But before you say goodbye to yesterday, that doesn't mean that Teen Wolf is over. Before SDCC news was announced that the show will live on. The show will continue in podcast form similar to that of the old radio serials of the 30's & 40's. It was also announced that it will continue on TV as well with a reboot coming from MTV in a few years featuring a mainly new cast and instead of a serial format it will adopt an anthology format, which Tyler Posey has stated he'd want to return for as a regular.
