Welcome Comic Frontline's Top 5 Panels! This is where the Frontline Six unite to pick their Top 5 comic panels from the week, and then you guys get to vote below which panel was your favorite. In next week's post, we will announce the winner from the poll.

Fan Panel Pick From Last Week - Young Justice #3 - Nope. Busy

KAT

Honorable Mention - Spider-Gwen: Ghost Spider #6 - Odd Jobs

This one panel shows how much Gwen has sacrificed to be a hero.

5. Runaways #19 - I Don’t Have to Pretend

I'm interested to see what this will mean for Molly. She's the only Runaway who didn't really get to make her own decision about running away. She just followed the crowd, and now she's old enough to understand the scope of The Pride. What will she choose?

4. Spider-Gwen: Ghost Spider #6 - I’m Normal

I love this visual! The world has to get use to a girl who can walk on walls.

3. Runaways #19 - We’re Her Family

I love Mama Nico and Papa Chase coming to rescue Molly as her legal guardians.

2. Superman #9 - Ma?

Now this is a fight I want to see!

1. Buffy the Vampire Slayer #3 - Cordy to the Rescue

Glad to see Cordy have her hero moment so early on in this series. Hopefully, we get to see more scenes like this with her.

BRANT

5.  Runaways #19 - Alex DOES Care

Love him standing up for Molly here.

4. Buffy the Vampire Slayer #3 - The Horrors!

Just a funny scene that points to the differences between Giles and Spike. Love it.

3. Avengers: No Road Home #6 - What if it is?

Hawkeye's dilemma here as he realizes they may not be dreaming is kind of funny and tragic.

2. Wonder Twins #2 - Looking Forward

Love that this scene so simply spells out the differences between the two with just a simple thought balloon each. Nicely done. And funny!

1. Spider-Gwen: Ghost Spider #6 - Baby Gwenoms?

The little spiders dropping and the blackout earlier in the issue... Gwenom is having little symbiote babies! Can't wait!

CHRIS

5. Transformers #1 - Brainstorm!

4. Wonder Twins #2 - Injustice Rejects

3. Superman #9 - Ma?

Dark Ma.

2.  Superman #9 - Having An Ultra Cry

1. The Amazing Spider-Man #17 - Back in Black

JAY

5. Saban's Go Go Power Rangers - Tower Formation!

I LOVE these classic moments and this team does them right, the wording, the order, the image all perfect!

4. Wonder Twins #2 - Butting Heads!

LOL this moment was just juvenile fun and I loved it.

3. Buffy The Vampire Slayer #3 - Ladies And Gentlemen, Cordelia Chase!

Now THIS is the Cordelia I want to see, the one who isn't trying to be nice who is the vamp without the fangs! She has to have the journey of growth to get to the Cordy she is in Angel.

2. Saban's Go Go Power Rangers - The Hand Not The Fist!

How freaking evil does Alpha-1 look? But I love how Alpha-5 tells him, "I'm Zordon's hand...not his fist." That sums up his relationship with Zordon so well.

1. Saban's Go Go Power Rangers - Mystic Mother Responsibility!

I loved this moment to see Rita's Mom go all Mystic Mother on her! Now I just need to see how Rita uses her pure of heart mother to corrupt or trick the Dragonzord Power Coin into powering an evil Ranger!

MIKE SPIDER-SLAYER

5. Spider-Gwen: Ghost Spider #6 - This Isn't A Dating Website

Gwen created a website to for people to hire for help. Her first message someone asked her for a date. First she was all excited then all her excitement gone.

4. X-23 #10 - Scout

In this scene we have Laura screaming to Gabby Chicken or Pork for dinner, while Gabby has officially come up with a name for her fallen sister. Is this the last we have seen of Scout?

3. The Amazing Spider-Man #17 - Motherly Nature

This never happens but seeing Felicia in a motherly fashion was very heart warming.

2. The Magnificent Ms. Marvel #1 - I've Become A Hero

This scene was like a gut punch when her dad found out she was Ms. Marvel. However, I love how she stood up for herself.

1. Red Hood: Outlaw #32 - Jason Stands Up

Jason Todd really made Bruce feel like a fool in this scene. Way to go Jason!!

Kickstart the Week with NOOK - a WWII Ghost Story (Hardcover Graphic Novel)

$

By: Nicole D’Andria

In a home on the border of France during WWII, a family finds a dark past and a cat named Nook. For the first time, the hardcover version of Nook is available on Kickstarter, and I’m speaking with creator/writer Caleb Thusat about the demented dreams he had that led to the creation of this haunting graphic novel!

Inspired by Caleb’s dreams and the works of Guillermo del Toro, Nook follows a family fleeing from WWII German. A young girl by the name of Avery and her family move into a house on the border of France. Avery will grow to love and fear the cat she finds as she’s unwittingly involved in a deadly cycle of violence when the past of her new home is slowly revealed.

The creator and writer of Nook is Caleb Thusat, who has been featured on Kickstart the Week several times with his Kickstarter projects for Zed #1 and Alter-Life Issues 1-4. Nook is his tenth Kickstarter project. The artist and letterer is Marcelo Biott, who is known for his webcomic Infracity.

Caleb is seeking $7,500 for Nook to pay the artist, print the books, and ship them to backers’ doors. The project must meet its goal by April 3, 2019 at 11:00 PM EDT. Rewards include digital ($10) and physical ($20) copies of Nook as well as bookplates ($25), enamel pins ($35), signed pin-up prints ($40) and more, which you can see on the official Kickstarter page.

I spoke with Caleb Thusat about the universe of Nookin-depth below!

Caleb Thusat

Me: Nook takes place during WWII at a home on the border of France. What made you decide on this particular setting in time and place?

Thusat: The setting came to the story for a couple of different reasons. First is my family history. My great grandparents fled Germany and moved to Ohio during WWII. Some of my family was even stuck and forced to fight. I’ve always found that part of my family history both horrifying and fascinating, so I wanted to bring it into my writing. My second reason for choosing this particular setting is that I am obsessed with WWII stories. WWII is a true setting of good versus evil. Stories from various perspectives during this war are primal tales of survival that explore the true polarity of humanity.

Me: Name some of your favorite qualities about Avery and why readers will enjoy following her as the protagonist of Nook.

Thusat: Avery is the embodiment of innocence. She’s clever and kind, but doesn’t quite understand the horrors that are happening around her. In the beginning, her biggest concern is the fact that she misses her home, friends and family. It’s a quality that is easy to fall in love with, and I hope her innocent perspective shines through during the first part of the book and makes you relate to her as a child.

Me: What are some reasons why Avery both loves and fears the mysterious cat, Nook?

Thusat: Nook is very curious. He has a certain mystical look and quality about him from the very beginning. Avery loves Nook because she sees him with innocent eyes and longs to have a friend to comfort her, but she also fears that there is something more to him. It is a fear of the unknown.

Me: You mention in the Kickstarter that part of your inspiration for the story is “demented dreams”. Can you describe some of your most poignant ones that were particularly inspirational for Nook?

Thusat: A few years before I wrote Nook, I had a very vivid and lucid dream about moving into an old house with my wife. This house had a very old carriage house attached to it with a small door leading to a storage area. In this dream, the realtor told us that a small girl had died there. She was locked in the nook and left to starve. For years I could never shake the memory of that dream, and other dreams spawned from it. I took those dreams, added a dash of family history and fiction, and now we have Nook.

Me: Which of Guillermo del Toro's works is your favorite and how does that particular work influence the world you’ve created in Nook?

Thusat: Pan’s Labyrinthand The Devil’s Backbone are the two films of his that influenced me the most with this story. Both revolve around a child living in an extremely visceral environment. Both children are confronted by something supernatural. And both are set in an important historical time period. I love how Del Toro uses the supernatural element to tell his stories. The plot usually never fully revolves around the ghost or mystical being. His stories are about the horrors of the world around those beings.

Me: You also mention on Kickstarter how this book uses timely themes, like “how we are doomed to repeat the past if we cannot learn from it.” Why do you feel this theme is particularly timely in our world today?

Thusat: Avery and her parents are Refugees. They are seeking safety and freedom from the oppression they foresee coming to Germany. This is a story being told again and again. Even in the U.S. we have refugees looking for the same escape. Without getting too political: I feel like our country has taken not just steps, but leaps and bounds backward in our journey toward acceptance and equality. War, racism, greed, and hate seem to have come back with a vengeance. Our people and politicians seem to have forgotten what has happened in the past. We ignore what has and what hasn’t worked and continue to live in a cycle of repeated failure. I wrote this as a way of saying, we must not forget what has happened and what we have done or we can never escape this cycle.

Me: What is the number one reason why you think people should pledge money to your Kickstarter project?

Thusat: Nook is a great story with beautiful artwork. It’s going to be a gorgeous book that tells a tale with meaning and purpose. I hope it’s a story that stays with readers and pulls them back from time to time. It’s also a great deal for a Hardcover Trade. It’s just $20 with free domestic shipping. You won’t be able to get it that cheap after the campaign.

Me: What inspirational words do you have for aspiring comic book writers?

Thusat: You are the only one holding yourself back. Turn the TV off. Stop playing video games. Put your fingers on the keyboard and write. There is no excuse you can give for not creating. If you want it bad enough, nothing can stop you. And remember, success takes time. Anyone can give up, and not everyone will keep going.

Me: Thank you for sharing your inspirational words and nightmares with us, Caleb! If you’re interested in checking out the Nook Kickstarter, clickhere.

ARCHIE #703
Written By: Nick Spencer
Art By: Sandy Jarrell
Letters By: Jack Morelli
Colors By: Matt Herms
Cover By: Marguerite Sauvage
Variant Covers By: Tula Lotay, Chip Zdarsky
Price: $3.99

Jughead is drawn deeper into the disappearance of Rick Mantle as Betty & Veronica bring in Cheryl to help figure out who Archie's new girlfriend is. Nick Spencer is writing a very different, more Riverdale-like Archie and I am actually enjoying it. Despite all of the Riverdale influence Spencer still keeps the heart of characters intact with Archie being the same loveable clueless guy he has always been. What intrigues me the most is the mystery with Rick Mantle, and Spencer has managed to make me like Reggie for the first time. The art here keeps a quaint charm that fits Archie and the Riverdale crew perfectly. While this isn't the Archie I grew up with Spencer has made it one that has grown up with me. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate

BATMAN #67
"Knightmares Part 5: All The Way Down"
Written By: Tom King
Art By: Lee Weeks & Jorge Fornes
Colors By: Lovern Kindzierski
Letters By: Clayton Cowles
Cover By: Lee Weeks & Breitweiser
Variant Cover By: Dave Johnson
Price: $3.99

Knightmares continues in a largely silent issue as he chases a masked man through Gotham. As far as silent issues go this one was done very well. Tom King's story is easily translated visually by Lee Weeks and Jorge Fornes. I felt the fast pace of the issue the adrenaline of the chase, the danger of jumping from rooftop to rooftop and the urgency behind it all. The part that falls flat in this issue is the story arc, while I have been enjoying Knightmares overall I think this was the weakest issue due to the lack of emotion or context. With all of that said this wasn't a bad issue and still gave me a very solid enjoyable "story". ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate
Verdict: 4 Stars

TEEN TITANS #28
"The Terminus Agenda Part ONe"
Story By: Adam Glass & Christopher Priest
Written By: Adam Glass
Art By: Bernard Chang
Colors By: Marcelo Maiolo
Letters By: Rob Leigh
Cover By: Giuseppe Camuncoli, Cam Smith & Tomeu Morey
Variant Cover By: Alex Garner
Price: $3.99

The Teen Titans have a new mission: take down Deathstroke! This was another solid issue, Glass does a great job making these characters feel true and feel like teens. This is a more proactive team of Titans and this is the most ambitious mission they went on yet, the danger is really felt here with the team expressing their apprehension about apprehending the most dangerous assassin in the world. Things like that really make this team fee more relatable, these are teens thinking they can do anything, they know this is next level, it also brings the threat level of Slade back up. Another way Glass brings that realism in is by making them emotionally vulnerable like Damian after the nightmare, and the jealousy of Crush over Djinn and Damian's relationship. Chang and Maiolo make a great team for the art, the fight scene was great including Roundhouse falling apart. This issue has me looking forward to the next issue of Deathstroke with that ending!  ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate
Verdict: 4 ½ Stars

NAOMI #3
Written By: Brian Michael Bendis & David Walker
Art By: Jamal Campbell
Letters By: Wes Abbott
Cover By: Jamal Campbell
Variant Cover By: Emanuela Lupacchino
Price: $3.99

Naomi confronts Dee about the picture she found in his garage and discovers more than she bargained for. Walker and Bendis do a great job with world building here. Even though this is the main DCU, they are creating this new corner of it in this book and it has me turning the pages wanting to know more of its secrets. Dee being a Thangarian, and Naomi's father being a Rannian makes me wonder if this small town is so boring by design? What other species could be inhabiting this tucked away town? This series is some of Jamal Campbell's best work to date. I can't explain it, but the whole thing has this social media vibe to it, where It looks like you are watching a vlog or something. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate
Verdict: 4 ½ Stars

MARVEL ACTION: AVENGERS #3
Written By: Matthew K. Manning
Art By: Jon Sommarvia
Colors By: Photobunker
Letters By: Christa Miesner
Cover By: Jon Sommarvia
Variant Cover By: Ryan Jampole
Price: $3.99

The Avengers have to face off against the Advanced Iron Mechanic who is the brainwashed Tony Starke while also taking on Fin Fang Foom and A.I.M. Meanwhile, Madame Masque and the U-Foes break out of the S.H.I.E.L.D. Hellicarrier. These Marvel Action books are fun! I am really enjoying the continuity-light fun approach to them. I think it is the fun that I enjoy most! When was the last time Thor had some good quips? It is hard to remember when any of these Avengers last smiled and here they are enjoying being Avengers while not taking away from the gravity of their situation. The art here really does a nice job giving it an animated feel. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate
Verdict: 4 Stars

FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN #4
Written By: Tom Taylor
Art By: Juann Cabal, Douglas Franchin (Finisher 18-20)
Colors By: Nolan Woodward
Letters By: VC’s Travis Latham
Cover By: Andrew C. Robinson
Marvel Meow Variant Cover By: Nao Fuji
Price: $4.99

The Under Yorkers come to wage war on the city to get back Leilani and her children. Tom Taylor has brought back the Friendly Neighborhood back to Spider-Man! I missed the fun that Spider-Man gave us, even when he was facing death Peter always had some great quips to dole out. It isn't just Peter though, it is the world feels different here, even with the danger of the situation we have folks in the neighborhood taking a stand for Spider-Man because he does the same for them. Another nice little piece here was the commentary on immigration in America, Taylor made it work into the story without having his politics overpowering the scene. But it is the moment in the end with Aunt May that really hits us in the feels and has me both anticipating and dreading that next issue. Woodward helps feed that sense of the classic feel in his colors that perfectly fits the simplistic yet detailed art of Cabal. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate
Verdict: 4 ½ Stars

THE IMMORTAL HULK #15
Written By: Al Ewing
Art By: Joe Bennett
Colors By: Paul Mounts
Letters By: VC’s Cory Petit
Price: $3.99

The Immortal Hulk hits it out of the park once again as Al Ewing takes an even deeper look at the connection between the Hulk family through the point of view of Doc Samson and his experience with death. I love the psychological narrative that Ewing has been producing, and connecting Bruce's death with the rest of his family makes me even more invested in the story. This series shows that there are actual consequences to death in comic books! Joe Bennett on pencils does a great job at bringing that horror, monster tone that helped many people fall in love with this series. It's some of the best artwork at Marvel right now. The Immortal Hulk #15 is a great follow up to the last issue, which was my favorite of the series and one of my favorite comics of the year. ~ Kat @ComicUno
Verdict: 4 ½ Stars

JESSICA JONES: PURPLE DAUGHTER #3
Written By: Kelly Thompson
Art By: Filipe Andrade & Mattia De Iulis
Colors By: Stephanie Paitreau & Mattia De Iulis
Letters By: VC’s Cory Petit
Price: $4.99

Jessica Jones: Purple Daughter #3 is a bit of a disappointing last chapter compared to the fantastic penultimate issue. I enjoyed the unique spin with Purple Man’s son, but this issue shifts the focus back on to his father and that was a letdown. We’ve seen enough Purple Man stories with Jessica, and I wanted something new. Even though I didn’t love the plot, Kelly Thompson does a good job of displaying the emotional battle between Jessica and Purple Man. On art, there were two illustrators - Filipe Andrade and Mattia De Iulis. Andrade drew the dream sequence with Jessica as a housewife. I didn’t love his lanky art style, but it did fit Jessica’s dream state. For the rest of the narrative, as always De Iulis aces the visuals, and I wish he could have been the artist on the whole issue. His art especially shines when Jessica has to fight herself to defeat Purple Man. He really composes those emotions perfectly. Overall, I enjoyed Jessica Jones: Purple Daughter, even if it fumbled at the end. Although, the digital format is frustrating since we don’t know when or if the series will return for another story arc. ~ Kat @ComicUno
Verdict: 3 Stars

MARVEL'S SPIDER-MAN: CITY AT WAR #1
Written By: Dennis "Hopeless" Hallum
Art By: Michele Bandini
Colors By: David Curiel
Letters By: V.C.'s Travis Lanham
Cover By: Clayton Crain
Variant Covers By: Various Artists
Price: $3.99

Set in the GamerVerse Spider-Man takes down Kingpin and with a power vacuum in the city, Mr. Negative tries to fill that void. I am not a gamer and have only played the PS4 Spider-Man sparingly with my nephew, but I have seen the "cut scenes movie" online so I have an understanding of the basic story. If you are someone who either played this game or like me watched the cut scenes, don't worry, while they do tell the same story overall, this issue adds new dimensions to it. I really like the added depth and story we got here, they really give me a better feel for the GamerVerse world. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate
Verdict: 4 ¼ Stars

MEET THE SKRULLS #2
"Family Unit"
Written By: Robbie Thompson
Art By: Niko Henrichon
Colors By: Laurent Grossat
Letters By: V.C.'s Travis Lanham
Cover By: Marcos Martin
Variant Cover By: Rahzzah
Price: $3.99

The Warners continue their mission while their handler Moloth informs Carl that the man hunting the Skrull sleepers could be after his daughter Alice. I love how complex these characters are. These are Skrulls, who should be just seen as evil threats but through their backstories, we see maybe there is more to them? Then that rug is pulled from under us when we see apparently Carl doesn't care that his own daughter could be killed by the hunter. Even Alice herself is complex she seems to be the one who is the best of them, then she goes total Mean Girl on a girl from school. I can't wait to see what Thompson has planned for the next issue! Niko Henrichon's style is the perfect fit for this Twilight Zone meets Riverdale vide this book has. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate
Verdict: 4 ½ Stars

WEST COAST AVENGERS #9
Written By: Kelly Thompson
Art By: Gang Hyuk Lim
Colors By: Tiona Farrell
Letters By: VC’s Joe Caramagna
Price: $3.99

West Coast Avengers #9, sadly, marks the penultimate issue of this amazingly fun team book. This issue not only starts to wrap up the team’s narrative but plot lines from Kelly Thompson’s Hawkeye series as we learn what Kate’s mom has been up to for the past decade. The vampire cult isn’t exactly the strongest plot line to end the series, but the character narrative that weaves through it is what makes this a solid end. Gang Hyuk Lim’s pencils do a great job at capturing these character moments and hysterical comedic beats Thompson aces with this series. If you aren’t reading West Coast Avengers, do yourself a favor and pick it up so we can get another volume. ~ Kat @ComicUno
Verdict: 4 Stars

BOOM! Studios First Look: Buffy The Vampire Slayer #4 - Major First Appearance!

Major First Appearance in BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #4 From BOOM! Studios

BOOM!Studios today unveiled a first look at BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #4, the shocking conclusion to the first arc of the highly praised reimagining of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER that is sure to divide readers and surprise fans both old and new, in partnership with 20th Century Fox Consumer Products.

Eisner Award-nominated writer Jordie Bellaire (Redlands) and Russ ManningAward-winning artist Dan Mora (Klaus, Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers), along with series creator and story consultant Joss Whedon (the visionary writer/director behind Firefly, Marvel’s The Avengers, and more), continue to reimagine the groundbreaking pop culture phenomenon in BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #4.

Buffy Summers thinks she’s faced the worst Sunnydale has to offer – like the Mistress Dru and her mysterious ally Spike– but this is the moment that changes everything for her. One member of her newly formed Scooby Gang won’t survive Dru’s master plan – and the shocking first appearance of one of Joss Whedon’s most popular characters may not be enough to save the day. Not to mention Buffy’s got a date with Robin Wood that’s gonna be completely ruined now!

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #4 features a main cover by acclaimed Mondo illustrator Matthew Taylor, along with variant covers by fan favorite Kevin Wada (She-Hulk) and acclaimed illustrator Feifei Ruan (Jim Henson’s Storyteller).
“Every time Buffy thinks she’s got it figured out, a bomb gets dropped that changes everything, reinforcing her fears that she isn’t good enough, that the future is uncertain, and that she might not live long enough to put things right. Amidst this uncertainty, the explosive events that break into Buffy’s life will happen when she least expects them, leaving longtime fans and new readers stunned by the events unfolding behind Buffy’s back.”
– Jeanine Schaefer, Executive Editor, BOOM! Studios

Buffy The Vampire Slayer premiered on the WB Network on March 10th, 1997. The Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated series, which ran for seven seasons from 1997-2003, starred Sarah Michelle Gellar as “Buffy Summers.” Chosen to battle vampires, demons and other forces of darkness, Buffy was aided by her Watcher, Rupert Giles, and a circle of friends known as the “Scooby Gang.”

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #4 is the newest release from BOOM! Studios' eponymous imprint, home to critically acclaimed original series, including Abbott from Saladin Ahmed and Sami Kivelä; Bone Parish from Cullen Bunn and Jonas Scharf; Grass Kings from Matt Kindt and Tyler Jenkins; and Klaus from Grant Morrison and Dan Mora. The imprint is also home to popular licensed properties including Joss Whedon’sFirefly from Greg Pak and Dan McDaid and Buffy The Vampire Slayer from Jordie Bellaire and Dan Mora.

Print copies of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #4 will be available for sale on April 17, 2019, exclusively at local comic book shops or at the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and the BOOM! Studios app.

Welcome Comic Frontline's Top 5 Panels! This is where the Frontline Six unite to pick their Top 5 comic panels from the week, and then you guys get to vote below which panel was your favorite. In next week's post, we will announce the winner from the poll.

Fan Panel Pick From Last Week - Red Hood: Outlaw #32 - Jason Stands Up

    KAT

    Honorable Mention - Spider-Man: Life Story #1 - Because of Spider-Man

This makes me miss Flash even more in the regular continuity of Spider-Man.

    5. Naomi #3 - It’s Only The Beginning

I love how Bendis puts the classic superhero origin on its head with Naomi.

    4. The Immortal Hulk #15 - The Hulk Club

I love that this title has to do with the Hulk family now.

    3. Thor #11 - Can’t You Hear It?

Jane's potential return as Thor is what is making me really excited to read War of the Realms.

    2. The Immortal Hulk #15 - She Can Take Care of Herself

    Don't underestimate Betty Ross!!

    1. Thor #11 - In Remission/KRRDDDAKOOOOOM!

We all know what that thunder means.

    BRANT

    5. Meet the Skrulls #2 - The Plot Thickens

Alice and her sister are flipping roles here and I love it! Sure, Alice is being hunted down now, but I like the twist with the two daughters, Alice actually being the more devious and adept one.

    4.  West Coast Avengers #9 - Mom Sucks!

Like, literally! I am just happy that there was some kind of twist with Kate's mom, because she was kind of boring!

    3. Marvel's Spider-Man: City at War #1 - Maybe Later/Spider-Kiss...

This is just a funny nod at all those upside down hanging Spidey kisses we've been treated to since that movie. Nicely done.

    2. Jessica Jones: The Purple Daughter #3 - Diamond Boobs!

I mean, come on, that is a fair point, Jessica's right!

    1. West Coast Avengers #9 - Jeff is Jawesome!/Humanizing Quentin?

Jeff the Land Shark for the win! Scrambled Eggs or no, Jeff with Quinten is adorable!

    JAY

    5. Thor #11 - KRRDDDAKOOOOOM!/In Remission

The ominous clap of thunder... Jane in remission... Thor looking for Mjolnir... Could Lady Jane be returning as Thor just in time for War?

    4. West Coast Avengers #9 - Humanizing Quentin?/Jeff is Jawesome!

This is what I do like about West Coast Avengers, the humor when appropriate like between Quentin and Jeff. This series has really made me enjoy Quentin.

    3. Teen Titans #28 - I'm Going To Fix You!

I love this animosity between Damian and Slade, they may have found their equal in each other. This rivalry reminds me of Slade and Slade in the Teen Titans Animated Series.

    2. Marvel's Spider-Man: City At War #1 - Spider-Kiss.../Maybe Later

This scene had me cracking up. I love the take on the Spider-Kiss from the original Spider-Man movie.

    1. Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #4 - Human Sense Is Tingling!

This is why I love this series, Tom Taylor knows how to hit us in the heart with Spider-Man whether it is with humor or something so serious as this.

    MIKE SPIDER-SLAYER

    5. The Immortal Hulk #15 - The End of the World

The reason why Hulk wants to end the world makes you understand why.

    4. Naomi #3 - Slap!

What does Naomi's Mom have over Dee? I was shocked like Naomi to see her treat him this way.

    3. Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #4 - Dynamic Duo

When these two interact it is always a great moment.

    2. Middlewest #5 - New Bike

This flashback scene with Abel and his father was so sad. Abel receives a brand new bike from his mom and his father smashes it in front of him. So sad and emotional what this family has gone through.

    1. West Coast Avengers #9 - Jeff is Jawesome!/Humanizing Quentin?

Jeff always makes a panel shine. Such a funny moment when Quinton threatens the camera crew.

They are faster, stronger, and smarter…but evil. Created by Karone when she was still the evil Astronema, the Psycho Rangers were programmed with overwhelming hate for all things Power Rangers. They were defeated at great personal cost by the Power Rangers, but now someone has brought them back and they are more murderous than ever before.

Who brought these monstrous, twisted Rangers back, and why? And can Karone, the former Lost GalaxyPink Ranger, and her brother Andros, the RedIn Space Ranger, stop the Psychos before they bring the universe to its knees?

“Being a part of the Power Rangers family is such a huge honor. I felt the weight of that honor in Power Rangers: Soul of the Dragon, and I can feel it now. I think the Psycho Rangers universe is so powerful and dark; it has been very fun to work on!”
    – Giuseppe Cafaro

Currently, Power Rangers is entering its 26th continuous year on the air, making it one of the longest-running kids’ live-action series in television history with nearly 900 episodes aired to date. Created by Haim Saban and launched in 1993 with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the franchise continues now under Hasbro with the 26th season, Power Rangers Beast Morphers is currently airing on Saturdays, at 8:00 AM ET on Nickelodeon in the U.S.

     THE LOLLIPOP KIDS #4
     "And We All Fall Down"
Co-Created & Story By: Adam Glass & Aiden Glass
    Written By: Adam Glass
    Art By: Deigo Yapur
    Colors By: DC Alonso
    Letters By: Sal Cipriano
    Cover A By: Robert Hack
    Price: $3.99

Mia decides that Nick can't be a Lollipop Kid and begins to remove him from Central Park when they are attacked by Morgan Le Fay. Yet another fantastical gripping issue of The Lollipop Kids! Glass does a great job weaving the known tales of these monsters that come from all forms of literature and film with original yarn to build unique amazingly fascinating new ones. This issue also does a great job playing off the trope of balancing a personal and heroic identity when Mia and Nick must field a call from their dad in the middle of a battle. But to me, the best part is the discussion of what qualities one must possess to be a hero. Yapur does a brilliant job with the art bringing in influences from traditional comics to that of children books and classic illustration of literature. Overall if you're not reading The Lollipop Kids run to your LCS and pick it up now! ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate
    Verdict: 4 ¾ Stars

SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH #1 (OF 5)
    Written By: Kelly Thompson
Art By: Veronica Fish, Andy Fish
    Letters By: Jack Morelli
    Cover By: Veronica Fish
Variant Covers By: Stephanie Buscema, Adam Hughes, Victor Ibanez, Sandra Lanz
    Price: $3.99

Sabrina is new in Greendale, starting a new school and dealing with new friends, foes, and demons... oh my! Sabrina is off to a great start, Thompson did a great job bringing all of the charm of the sitcom with just a dash of an update to make quite the new take of the Teenage Witch. The world building was done with the right amount of exposition so it didn't overwhelm the characters, which were all excellent portrayed, especially Salem. The art team does a great job bringing the wholesome of classic Archie with the dread of the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina making this the Sabrina for everyone. Overall I see only one mistake here, Thompson says Sabrina cast 5 spells in this issue, but she forgot the one cast upon the readers! ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate
    Verdict: 4 ¾ Stars

    MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #38
    Written By: Marguerite Bennett
    Art By: Simone di Meo
    Colors By: Walter Baiamonte
    Letters By: Ed Dukeshire
    Main Cover By: Jamal Campbell
    Pre-Order Cover By: Sean Galloway
    Incentive Cover By: Xermánico
Unlocked Retailer Variant By: Miguel Mercado
    Price: $3.99

On the Splintered Star which houses pure Zeo Crystal Mike is visited by the Preator and is faced with a grim choice to save his friends or betray them. Bennett does a great job with the characters as they all square off and cast doubt on each other. This is something we don't see on the show unless the Rangers are under a spell so I found it refreshing to see them being flawed, which makes me root for them all the more. Simone di Meo does a nice job growing his style and reigning in the chaos, but at times a more clear in frame shot should have been used like when Ari was shot. Overall this was a fun issue that really starts the ball rolling for the finale in just two issues. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate
    Verdict: 4 ¼ Power Bolts

    ACTION COMICS #1009
    "Leviathan Rising Part 3"
    Written By: Brian Michael Bendis
    Art By: Steve Epting
    Colors By: Brad Anderson
    Letters By: Rob Leigh
    Cover By: Steve Epting
    Variant Cover By: Francis Manapul
    Price: $3.99

Superman takes Lois, Jimmy, and Waller to the new Fortress as they learn more about what is going on with Leviathan. Overall I have been enjoying Bendis on Superman, and I think he understands most of the characters getting their voices right, but I do have an issue with his Lois. Lois has been throwing around terms of endearment and pet names around everyone when talking to Superman. Other than that though this was a solid issue, I did enjoy the mystery of the issue and the pacing was great. Steve Epting does a great job with the art here, I love his facial expressions. Overall a solid issue but Bendis' Lois needs some work, and please don't do the SUperman outing story, it's been done and we didn't like it. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate
    Verdict: 4 ¼ Stars

    BATGIRL #33
    Written By: Mairghread Scott
Art By: Elena Casagrande, Scott Godlewski
    Colors By: John Kalisz
    Letters By: Andworld Design
    Price: $3.99

Mairghread Scott turns up the intensity by adding James Gordon Jr. to the equation. James is out of jail, and Barbara seems to be the only person that doesn’t trust him as everyone is convinced that he’s changed because of his new dose of medication. One of my favorite aspects of Gail Simone’s run was the tension she built between Babs and her brother, and Scott continues to build on this with this issue. The story does a great job at testing Babs’ relationships, and I’m excited to see what this will mean for the series moving forward. Elena Casagrande and Scott Godlewski both bring some sleek visuals and the emotional beats needed for this story - especially with the final confrontation between Batgirl and James. Batgirl #33 brings the series back on track by embracing the angsty storytelling Simone’s run strived on.   ~ Kat @ComicUno
    Verdict: 4 Stars

The 1000th issue of Detective Comics celebrating 80 years of Batman. This was a nice celebration of Batman and the Bat-Family. There were some highlights here for me the best came at the end with the final three stories, each encaptured a part of what I loved about Batman. I know some people don't like these vignettes but I do, I like the variety of them, yes not all are made equal, but I think they encapture the complete Batman and have something for every Batman fan.  ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate

    HEROES IN CRISIS #7
    Written By: Tom King
    Art By: Clay Mann (P. 1-6, 11, 17-19, 23-24)Travis Moore (p. 8-10, 13, 14-16, 20-21) Jorge Fornes (p. 7, 12, 22)
    Colors By: Tomeu Morey
    Letters By:  Clayton Cowles
    Cover By: Mitch Gerads
    Variant Cover By: Ryan Sook
    Price: $3.99

Batgirl and Harley Vs Booster Gold and Blue Beetle while we learn about Wally's first three weeks at Sanctuary. I have been loving Heroes in Crisis, this is the best event in comics in a long time. King isn't writing a comic event though, he is writing a psychological mystery novel with illustrations. Speaking of the art, this teamwork nicely together, blending their styles so they feel like one solid piece. Overall it is the character moments like Booster's self-doubt and Harley's mourning over Ivy that really bring this book to the top of my list every time. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate
    Verdict: 4 ¾ Stars

    SHAZAM! #4
"Shazam And The Seven Magic Lands! Chapter 4 Into The Wildlands"
    Written By: Geoff Johns
Art By: Dale Eaglesham & Marco Santucci
    Colors By: Mike Atiyeh
    Letters By: Rob Leigh
Cover By: Dale Eaglesham & Alex Sinclair
Variant Cover By: Jim Lee & Alex Sinclair
    Price: $3.99

The Marvel Family is separated and have been sent to three different worlds where each group faces their own obstacles. Geoff Johns is doing a great job not just bringing back the Marvel Family but expanding on the lore with the seven Magic Lands and tying them into things like Talking Tawny. The thing I am not sure of though is should we be exploring them all together like this or should each one have had their own issue so we can truly feel them out? I'm also interested in the B-Plot with Billy's "Dad" and the truth of how he ended up being an orphan. Eaglesham & Santucci are at the top of their game and they couldn't have a better colorist to make it pop the way Atiyeh does, it helps sell the whole magic of SHAZAM! Overall this was a nice fun issue that really leaves you wanting more with Black Adama arriving on the scene. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate
    Verdict: 4 ½ Stars

    DIAL H FOR HERO #1
    "The Hero Within"

    Art By: Joe Quinones
    Letters By: Dave Sharpe
    Cover By: Joe Quinones
    Variant Cover By: Nick Derington

Young Miguel is facing certain death when he gets a call that changes his life forever. Humphries does a great job introducing the main character Miguel in this first issue. Right away I feel for the young man who has to sells Mayo Fries (yes fries made out of mayo) and Mayo shakes (eechh) at his Uncle's Mayo Food Truck, who, ever since he had an accident at a pool and saved by Superman has been searching for the thrill of flying again. We also get brought into the world of the H-Dial and the Thunderbolt Club, right away setting up something for our hero to face. Quinones art here is the perfect fit for this book! He brings this youthful energy and excitement to his work that makes you feel like you can reach out and Dial H for yourself! Overall this was a great first issue that has me excited for what's to come from the series! ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate

    GLOW #1

I’m an old school (and new school) wrestling fan, and I used to watch Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling (GLOW) back in the day. So when the Netflix series dropped, I was all over that. I was also a fan of Alison Brie from Community, so that didn’t hurt either. I like the series with its dark humor and intricate character depth and growth that is the real charm of the series.

The first issue of the comic series based on the property managed to capture a lot of what the Netflix series puts forth but in a bit of a lighter tone. Sure, there were a few smaller more mature references or language used, but overall, it was almost an Archie Comics version of the show, which is fine. It was fun, Templer’s art popped and made the characters interesting and pretty much nailed the likenesses as well.

Howard’s plot seemed well enough in line with the theme of the show, with the ladies being forced to do something out of the blue that some of them are excited about and others dread. You had comical relief with Welfare Queen having her wisdom teeth pulled the day of, and you got a tiny bit of the tension between Ruth and Debbie as well, but not enough to really pull you into their conflict.

I just felt like it wasn’t quite as strong as the TV show, and while it’s probably unfair to compare the two, I had a hard time not doing so. I enjoyed the issue and will continue reading the series, as a wrestling fan, a comic fan, and fan of the show, even if it didn’t quite live up to the expectations I personally had for it. ~ Brant @BrantFowler

In Snotgirl #13 everything starts to unravel. Can’t Lottie just have a day for HER - it’s the premiere of her pop up shop for God sake! Of course not because this is real life, and Lottie can’t hide behind her social media facade forever. Lottie’s ex and his best friend, who is also the creepy detective that has a Lottie wig in his room, try to uncover the truth behind Coolgirl. All while, Coolgirl outs Lottie in front of her fans with a kiss as she tries to hide Lottie’s snot from them. Snotgirl #13 has some great movement. Lottie seems pretty broken by the end as she sleeps on her literal shit stained pop-up store floor. What does this mean for her social media image? Is the real Lottie finally peeking through?  ~ Kat @ComicUno

Quincredible has become a favorite series of mine that I am excited to read whenever it comes out. So far, it’s been the only title from Lion Forge’s Catalyst Prime line that I’ve been able to invest into, but it’s made me want to go back and try the others again.

This issue, while not the strongest of the series, was another good one as the heroes took the battle to some thugs with high-tech weapons provided by our new villain.

Quin’s parents finding out about his abilities last issue made for an interesting conversation this issue, and a nice twist to the typical superhero story. That said, this issue Quin is basically outed to the world, which I felt might have been too fast. The battle with the “villains” also did not last long and was wrapped up in short fashion.

Art-wise, as usual, the art was on point. There’s a stylistic charm to it that even in panels that might look a little wonky, it still fits the style the artist is going for with the figures.

This issue had some finality to it, if a bit rushed, which had me worried maybe it wasn’t continuing, which I’m not sure of. I hope it does because I think there’s a wealth of potential with this character and this series. ~ Brant @BrantFowler

    THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #18
    Written By: Nick Spencer
    Art By: Humberto Ramos
Colors By: Edgar Delgado, Erick Arciniega
    Letters By: VC’s Joe Caramagna
    Price: $3.99

The Amazing Spider-Man #18 delves deeper into Kraven’s plans as Spider-Man is forced to team up with his enemies in order to survive. Nick Spencer continues to deliver a fresh twist on classic Spider-Man storytelling as the rich of New York City use Kraven robots controlled by VR to "hunt" Spider-Man and his enemies in Hunger Games fashion, all while building tension with the ominous clues of MJ being harmed. I’m enjoying this refreshing story with Kraven, but MJ shines the most in this issue. She has limited panel time, but with these few pages, we see how much she’s grown as a character just by how she handles her worry for Peter. She’s more than just the “party girl”. Humberto Ramos’ pencils bring a nostalgic tone to the title as he’s been a staple on the series for many years. Although, he does give some awkward grandma moves to MJ’s dance sequence. Overall, The Amazing Spider-Man #18 is a solid installment to a refreshing new arc of the series.  ~ Kat @ComicUno

Hercules, Vision, and Spectrum join Wanda and Conan in the Hyborian Age to take on Nyx while, Hulk, Rocket and Hawkeye head to Euphoria. No Road Home is back! Last week the book lost something with the main focus being on Conan and Wanda in the Hyborian Age, but here the book that I have been enjoying is back. I love the voice of Monica here, hearing her struggle with being more than human really shows how human she is and how human all of these larger than life heroes are. Paco Medina is doing some of his best work on this book he truly is giving us modern classic takes on the Avengers. Overall a solid issue that leaves me wondering why isn't this the main Avengers book?  ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate

Daredevil #3 Know Fear Part 3, Chip Zdarsky keeps this awesome ride going with some unexpected turns.  The issue opens with a shot and bleeding Daredevil, about to be taken into police custody Det. Cole, only to narrowly slip away. What follows is a full-on police chase in Hell’s Kitchen with all the cops looking for a half-conscious Daredevil and end with a one on one between DD and Det. Cole. But this is where we get the first twist as Cole comes out as the winner and our hero is arrested, what just happened? Of course, Kingpin is there on the scene to smile and gloat while Daredevil is placed in the back of a police car.  It was also awesome to see how the police officers stepped in to make sure the mask stayed on until they get to the station.   But what you do think happened, that right.  They don’t’ make it to the station.  This is where we get the second twist and it’s a big one.  The creative team of Zdarsky, Checchetto, and Gho and telling a great down and gritty Hell’s Kitchen original and I’m hungry for more. ~ Justin @ExileState

Doom's true plan is revealed as he holds the Fantastic Four captive waiting execution, meanwhile Franklin rebels against Alicia. This issue had a slow start with Victor Doomsplaining his plan to Reed and the world but then we see why Reed is the Smartest person alive when he and the Fantastic Four shift to the offensive and hit Doom's biggest weak spot, his ego. I also loved the emotions coming from Franklin and Alicia, teenagers have a tendency to hurt their paternal figures and not truly mean it and that is what I think we have here. There were multiple artists on this issue which overall was not too distracting but it was noticeable to me. Overall this was another nice issue that leaves me in anticipation of the next. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate

Everyone is hunting everyone but who is behind it all? Pak is doing a great job with this fast-paced mini-series that has me rooting for the Hulk, the Hulverine and Wolverine. I'm glad the family wasn't truly sent away to only be used in the last pages of the final issue because they lend a certain component to the book that helps us connect and humanize things here more. The art here was really well done and read next to the first issue you see that Vilanova kept the art similar so when it is collected it won't be jarring. Overall another solid issue and the ending makes me excited for the bonkers clawclusion. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate

THE SECRET HISTORY OF THE POWER RANGERS IS REVEALED!
GO GO POWER RANGERS joins the epic “Necessary Evil” event in July 2019

BOOM!Studios, under license by Hasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAS), announced today that one of the biggest mysteries in Power Rangers history will be revealed as the GO GO POWER RANGERS series joins the epic Necessary Evil event in July 2019.

GO GO POWER RANGERS #21, from the writing duo of Ryan Parrott (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) & Sina Grace (Iceman) and artist Francesco Mortarino (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), begins the reveal of the secret history behind the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers with the introduction of all new characters, new alliances and jaw-dropping answers to some of the biggest questions that fans have always asked.

The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers have survived the shocking events of their war with Lord Drakkon—a twisted alternate-reality version of Tommy Oliver (AKA the Mighty MorphinGreen Ranger)—and reality has now been reset…but has the danger truly passed? Why don’t the Rangers recall the incredible events of the landmark Shattered Grid? The answer to this question will set one of the Rangers on a path that will reveal an explosive, previously untold story in the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers mythos that will change everything you thought you knew.

GO GO POWER RANGERS #21 features a main cover by Amelia Vidal (Buffy The Vampire Slayer), with variant covers by Miguel Mercado (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) and Gleb Melnikov, and more to be announced.

New York Times Bestselling author Ryan Parrott is a writer in multiple mediums. A graduate of Chapman University, Parrott has written on television series NBC's Revolution and Hulu's Chance. In comics, Ryan was a co-writer on DC's Batman: Gates of Gotham, several of IDW's Star Trek titles, including Starfleet Academy, Boldly Go and Manifest Destiny, as well as the NBC series finale Revolution: Endgame. Parrott was one of the key architects of the landmark Power Rangers: Shattered Grid comic book event and currently writes Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers at BOOM! Studios, along with creator-owned projects Volition and Oberon for Aftershock Comics, and lives in Los Angeles with his wife. He will become the series writer of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers beginning with issue #40 in June 2019.
“Two years ago, I started on GO GO POWER RANGERS with the goal of crafting a series that placed an emphasis on character and focused as much on teenage relationships as it did on giant monsters. Naturally, when I was offered the chance to write Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, I assumed my time exploring the personal lives of the ‘Teenagers with Attitude’ was over. Thankfully... I was wrong. Now, while the current iteration of GO GO POWER RANGERS is about to draw to a close, an exciting new chapter awaits. I'm thrilled to have the incredible talents of Sina Grace and Francesco Mortarino coming onboard and I promise that Go Go's style and sensibilities will remain constant, even as we introduce new and familiar characters, recontextualize iconic series moments and explore bold new areas of the Power Ranger mythology. I really hope you all come along for the journey."
     – Ryan Parrott

Sina Grace is a writer and artist living in Los Angeles, CA who has earned prestigious nominations for both the GLAAD Media Awards and the PRISM Awards. He is best known for his slice-of-life memoirs at Image Comics, including Self-Obsessed and Nothing Lasts Forever; the highly anticipated reimagining of Jughead's Time Police at Archie Comics; and the critically-acclaimed, landmark Iceman series at Marvel Entertainment. Grace has been a part of the Power Rangers comic book series at BOOM! Studios from day one, illustrating variant covers for the chart-topping Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #1, along with both writing & illustrating one of the comic book stories celebrating the 25th anniversary of the pop culture phenomenon in 2018. Ghosted in LA, Grace’s new original series at BOOM! Studios will launch in July 2019.
“As a lifelong Mighty Morphin Power Rangers fan, and I'm thrilled to work beside Ryan on one of the most exciting chapters in the Rangers' history. Mom, if you're reading this: thanks for waiting in line before work to get me that Megazord."
     – Sina Grace

Francesco Mortarino is an Italian cartoonist who graduated from the Comics School of Milano. He started working at Sergio Bonelli Editore on the comic series Nathan Never and made his US comics debut on Jupiter’s Circle, soon working on other projects like Dungeon & Dragons: Evil at Baldur’s Gate. Mortarino has worked on high profile BOOM! Studios series including Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Firefly: Bad Company.
“Till I started on my first page, working on GO GO POWER RANGERS sounded incredible. Now that I'm on board it's even better than I ever imagined, so it’s time to wake up from this dream and give 100% to draw these issues.”
     – Francesco Mortarino

Currently, Power Rangers is entering its 26th continuous year on the air, making it one of the longest-running kids’ live-action series in television history with nearly 900 episodes aired to date. Created by Haim Saban and launched in 1993 with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the franchise celebrates its milestone anniversary year now under Hasbro with the 26th season, Power Rangers Beast Morphers is currently airing on Saturdays, at 8:00 AM ET on Nickelodeon in the U.S.
“Necessary Evil is the biggest Power Rangers story we’ve ever told and we knew that GO GO POWER RANGERS would play a key role– with epic introductions and revelations, along with the big emotions you’ve come to love, from the series. Fans can read GO GO POWER RANGERS independent of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, but those who pick up both series will see just how we’re crafting our most ambitious and most shocking Power Rangers comic book epic yet. The events in GO GO POWER RANGERS directly inform the debut of the White Ranger in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, but Ryan, Sina, and Francesco have also made sure this story stands on its own as well.”
     – Dafna Pleban, Senior Editor, BOOM! Studios

Print copies of SABAN’S GO GO POWER RANGERS #21 will be available for sale on July 10, 2019, at local comic book shops or at the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers like comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and the BOOM! Studios app.
