Gaijin, a foreign anthropomorphic salamander Samurai is in a Feudal Japan in the middle of a war between the frogs and the invading lizards. I like when comics break out of the box and go for something new, and pull from other sources and Rosi does a great job with Homer's Batrachomyomachia or the Battle of Frogs and Mice and delivers an engaging piece of art. What Rosi does with words, Geregatti manages to capture with the art, the style really sets us in Feudal Japan allowing us to more emerge in the story. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate

The Injustice War is here and Robin and Superboy are bringing the fight to them. It is no secret about how much I have been enjoying the Super Sons, and the streak continues here! Tomasi continues to transport me back to a more innocent time when I was a kid and comics were about fantasy, adventure, and fun. That is what I get in this issue, two friends taking on a freaking awesome army of villains and you never know what is going to happen next. Welcome back, Carlo Barberi! I love Barberi's style he has this energy in his art that makes me feel like I should be laying on the floor reading this book and watching Saturday morning cartoons in the best possible way! ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate

Darkseid is... The end of the DC Universe? Darkseid gets the Anti-life Equation and sets out a plague that destroys Apocalypse and spreads through Earth. I am not a big fan of zombie stories, maybe it is Walking Dead exhaustion but Taylor does something cool and interesting here tying it into the lore of the DCU and spreading it through a unique method. This was a great start to this event that nicely sets the stage and lets us know by the end how deadly it can be. Taylor has done a great job with the darker side of the DCU with Injustice and this seems to be even darker and I am in. The art team does a great job with this issue really bringing home the thriller aspect. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate

The year of the villain kicks off with a BABOOOOM! This was a solid offering and a great way to hype up and kick off the Year of the Villain event! Each chapter gave us a feel of other things tied into this event like the whole Legion of Doom story from Justice League, Bane's cabal from Batman, Leviathan from Action Comics & Event Leviathan and even The Batman Who Laughs from the upcoming Secret Six giving us the scope of this event. I have to admit when Luthor blew himself up I was thinking, ok he teleported out at the last minute or something but I didn't see the ending with Perpetua. Each art team did a great job here as well they both set their stories apart from each other while not making them too different that it was jarring. This issue renewed my interests in some books and has me excited for the Year of The Villain. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate

Since the series began some questions needed answers especially about how they all remember each other and we get some of those answers here as the teens face off with Dark Opal. Bendis does a great job filling in some information on the teens and how they remember, but it makes the main story on Gemworld suffer and feel like it has been going on longer than it has been. The art team does a solid job especially on Teen Lantern where she actually looks like a teen and not an eight-year-old. I think the bigger story is the one with the original team and how they remember each other and the rest of the story feels a little cluttery and should have been the second arc after the original team got together, but this was still a solid issue. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate

The Spider-Men meet Spider-Gwen as they take on the Lizard. I love this series! This issue gives us that big reveal where Peter, Miles, and Gwen all learn about each other being Spider-people while meeting their first villain, the Lizard. Dawson did a great job tying Gwen and Miles origins together, but not leaving Peter out with using the Lizard as the main villain given her origin in the comics and that the Lizard was the first villain from the FOX animated series. Ossio does a great job bringing a new yet familiar take on these characters with an animated tone. Marvel keeps making Spider-Gwen a part of their main continuity outside of the main comic line and I think this would make a great beginning to a new "Ultimate Universe" line of books. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate

Ms. Marvel is feeling the pressure as the other realms invade Midgard, with her best friends gone, her team going through interpersonal turmoil an old friend returns to let Kamala know she can do it and that the Champions are needed. I loved this issue! This was maybe my favorite one of this volume! We got this great scene with Kamala and Scott where he comes back to help his team, it is but disturbing and awesome. Zub did a great job balancing Cyclops and Ms. Marvel where he steps in to boost her without taking her power from her reminding me of the days when Storm would lead and Scott would be there to help. Menyz does a great job with the art here balancing the tones of the story using the lighter and darker tones at just the right moments. Ramirez handles the emotions in the issue perfectly delivering home every bit of emotion the script gives us. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate

The Warner's mission is revealed just as they are betrayed. WOW! This issue really delivered! This whole time we thought Ivy was dead, but she is being used to help locate Skrull sleeper agents and the Warner's handler betrays them? Thompson does such a great job with the character moments and emotional beats while keeping us on our toes throwing curve balls at every turn. Henrichon did an amazing job delivering the action and the emotion especially when the two intersected in the fight between the parents. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate

Netflix has closed a first look deal with Dark Horse Entertainment. Under the new deal, Dark Horse Entertainment will give Netflix a first look at its IP for both film and TV and has started exploring future projects. Dark Horse Entertainment’s Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg, and Paul Schwake signed on to produce.



Netflix and Dark Horse have previously collaborated on the action-comedy series The Umbrella Academy, which was recently renewed for a second season, as well as Jonas Åkerlund’s feature film Polar.

As Marvel honors its 80th Anniversary this year, Marvel announced a new epic comic book issue to celebrate the legacy of the Marvel Universe: MARVEL COMICS #1000! Featuring 80 creative teams with luminaries from both classic and current comic books (and beyond!), this oversized one-shot will be packed with pages spanning across generations of Marvel’s iconic Super Heroes – with cover art from legendary artist Alex Ross!



As the MarvelUniverse reaches new heights around the globe, MARVEL COMICS #1000 serves as a testament to the world of characters and stories that have captured the hearts of millions of fans – whether they’ve followed Marvel for years or are just getting started. Anyone will be able to pick up this book and dive right into the Marvel Comics Universe!

Al Ewing, writer of the critically-acclaimed Immortal Hulk series, will be the primary writer of MARVEL COMICS #1000, framing the overall structure of the book.

“There are so many threads in this mystery, so many different parts of Marvel you’ll find secret connections. There are a lot of synchronicities and echoes in this, and threads between all of that.”

“This is by far the most complex and complicated and difficult book I’ve ever had to assemble.”

Among those individuals, some of whom teased the project on social media this week, are long-time Marvel veterans -- including Roy Thomas, Peter David, Gerry Conway, and Adam Kubert -- and current creators -- including Saladin Ahmed, Gail Simone, Chip Zdarsky, and Kris Anka -- as well as talents outside of comics, like filmmakers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas, and basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Mantic Games, in partnership with Dark Horse Comics, is pleased to announce that Hellboy: The Board Game is available now in stores worldwide. After a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign, that raised more than $2 million, the retail edition gives a whole new audience the opportunity to recreate the action-packed adventures of Hellboy.


Inspired by Mike Mignola’s visionary Hellboy universe, the game is a co-operative experience in which players face off against some of Hellboy’s most notorious foes. Up to four people take control of iconic B.P.R.D. members – Hellboy, Abe Sapien, Liz Sherman, and Johann Kraus - before exploring gothic locations, uncovering ancient artifacts and battling against the minions of chaos.

Featuring stunning, pre-assembled plastic miniatures, Mantic Games has worked closely with Mike Mignola to ensure the gaming pieces accurately capture the look and feel of the source material. What’s more, games designers James M. Hewitt and Sophie Williams from Needy Cat Games have created a tabletop experience that blends tense exploration with spectacular combat.

BOOM! Studios, in partnership with 20th Century Fox Consumer Products, along with visionary writer and director Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Marvel’s The Avengers), today revealed a first look at ANGEL #1, written by Bryan Hill (Detective Comics, Killmonger) with art from Gleb Melnikov  (Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers), with the appearance of old faces from Angel’s past and new threats in his future, available in stores May 29, 2019.


Meet Angelus, leader of an army of brutal vampire warriors terrorizing the land, hungry for power and thirsty for blood as he invades villages and takes innocent people past the point of no return. Several centuries later, Angel spends his time protecting humanity from the monsters that lurk in the dark in an attempt to redeem himself for the crimes committed by the monster he was when he was first turned. It may be that he’s too late to save his humanity and his soul but he’s lost too many people in his ongoing fight against the forces of evil, and he’s finally ready to find a solution to his tortured existence as a vampire with a conscience. When his path leads him to an old friend in Sunnydale, sparks will fly and demons will clash as Angel’s search takes him ever closer to the person who could end his quest before it’s even begun—the Chosen One, Buffy Summers.



ANGEL #1 features a main cover by artist Dan Panosian (Slots, Batman: Arkham Knight) and variant covers by artists Scott Buoncristiano (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Boris Pelcer (Angel), and Jonathan Case (Firefly).

Created by visionary writer and director Joss Whedon (Marvel’s The Avengers film franchise), Angel premiered on the WB Network on October 5th, 1999 and was a spin-off from Buffy The Vampire Slayer. The series ran for five seasons from 1999-2004, starring David Boreanaz as “Angel,” the tortured vampire destined to walk the earth with a soul who moved to LA to set up shop as a supernatural private investigator. Despite Angel’s best efforts to deal with the sins of his past all by himself, Angel Investigations soon became home to other lost souls searching for redemption and willing to fight by his side.

“The centuries weigh heavy on Angel, especially after everything he’s done and all he’s endured. But is there any way for him to truly leave the past behind him? Does his fight against the forces of evil in the present make up for the horrible choices he made in the past and can saving a life now replace the lives he took then? Bryan and Gleb are really digging deep into Angel’s past and challenging what redemption can look like, especially now, when our actions are recorded and preserved forever.”

Dawson (Sparrowhawk) and acclaimed artists Pius Bak (The Magicians: Alice’s Story) and Rodrigo Lorenzo (WWE: Undertaker -- Rise of the Deadman) arriving in stores November 2019 that sends the women of Firefly on the ultimate heist!

Pius Bak is a comic book artist born and currently living in Lithuania. Mostly self-taught, Bak started his career as a concept artist. He later transitioned to drawing comics, and in 2017, for the first time, his illustrations appeared in the published comic Night Owl Society. Bak has done illustration work for The Magicians: Alice’s Story and Adventure Time with BOOM!Studios as well as various other independent comics projects.

Rodrigo Lorenzo is an artist and illustrator who has done illustration, publicity, and concept artwork, including the NBA Playoffs HeroesWanted campaign. Lorenzo has done illustration work for the WWE series for BOOM!Studios.

Created by Whedon and set 500 years in the future in the wake of a universal civil war, Firefly centers on the crew of Serenity, a small transport spaceship that doesn't have a planet to call home. Captain Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds, a defeated soldier who opposed the unification of the planets by the totalitarian governed Alliance, will undertake any job — legal or not — to stay afloat and keep his crew fed. Man, this is the first issue I've read in a long time, and I loved parts of it, this one in particular. Krypto being the "voice" of reason, and the thing that pulls Kara back from the edge was brilliantly done!

Man, I just loved this issue, and this page/panel was a perfect way to end it with Spidey taking the kid out for a real swing. It was revealed earlier that he wasn't sure he'd wake up again and didn't want their play date to end, and this is how Spidey caps it off. Beautiful, touching, and befitting a hero like Spidey!
